Updating firmware on a Maxtor Shared Storage Drive?

Has anyone upgraded their firmware on one of these devices yet?

I bought mine from Staples last week after a great bargain tip off from this forum.
I've seen that there is much more recent firmware revision but it not clear if this is for the Shared Storage or the Shared Storage Plus.

This link suggests that the firmware 2.6.2 is for the Maxtor Shared Storage:
    http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Ma...downloadID=159

But this one suggests that 2.6.2 is for the Maxtor Shared Storage Plus:

    Any ideas?

    Andy.

This thread on the OpenMMS (open-source firmware for the Maxtor MSS/MSS+):

indicates that there are no physical differences so I think I might just go for it!

Well I've just updated it and everything is fine, it's basically a 300GB MSS+ now so I'm a happy man!
If you download the ISO image from Maxtor's support site then you also have all the software that shipped with the MSS+ as well.

It is very good firmware, my MSS now serves up Itunes across my network and backs up to a 300gb usb drive connected to it using cron and rsync automatically at 0600am every day.

Thwe openmss forums ae great if you get into trouble with it too!

Which version of openmms are people using? I updated with 1.22 openmss2 and got ftp up and running. Is the 2.6.2 RC2 better?

Am using 2.4.2 RC1 as 2.6.2 was missing some packages for me...

    Seems very stable
