3's mobile broadband to cost fiver a month; £10 with home TV

Mobile phone operator 3 today unveiled the pricing of its UK flat-rate mobile-internet service - X-Series - filling in one of the two significant gaps in our detailed HEXUS.lifestyle.headline of mid-November, 3 changes mobile internet for ever with flat-rate service.

The company says that two base packages are available - X-Series Silver at £5 per month and X-Series Gold at £10 per month - and that these costs are on top of those for voice and text subscriptions, which, of course, you must also take out.

You have to love the term "unlimited" dont you, im so glad my bb is through blueyonder, however flat rate internet for the mobile is a good thing, and hopefully the other providers will fall in line.

Granted you can't use this for general data (ie. using it as a wireless modem) but it does beat O2s £40 a month for their "unlimited" data package. And i think that is on top of their monthly contract price too.

How does that circumvent people suing them over the definition of "unlimited"?

At £20 for 6 months then £35 per month for the lowest package, t-mobile still have the best deal with Flext 20 and web'n'walk (1 or 2gb of usage, can't remember) for £15 per month for the first 3 months, then £22.50 after - £12.50-17.50 cheaper, which is quite a bit! No Skype, but, I don't know how popular that will be on 3.

IMHO, 1Gb per month is fairly generous for 3G broadband that you can use anywhere. That much usage should be plenty for general surfing and email, so long as you don't go mad with movie downloads or the like. Most budget ADSL packages are capped at 1Gb/month and that appears to be OK for most (non heavy) users.

You can. There will be nothing to stop you putting the SIM card you get from 3 into a 3g PCMCIA card in your laptop. Alternatively if your PC or laptop has bluetooth, you can set up the supplied Nokia N73 as a high speed modem.

its interesting, im just gitted i upgraded my phone in september, wont be eligable for an upgrade yet i should try to blag an upgrade phone as i would have had the N73 if i had known about this earlier
