I think you said you don't plan on o/c so I'd be tempted to go for an E6600 instead of an E6300. It's only £80 more which is a bargain for both faster speed and 2mb more cache.
Though you are already overbudget by just over £200

Custom PC said there's naff all point getting the 6600 against the 6300 really for gaming. So that's good enough for meOriginally Posted by edp33

Have been pointed at this case several times in my research. It ticks all the boxes apart from the looks one. Probably still up at the top of my list currently though.Originally Posted by DratUK
I dunno ... it's a completely unknown name to me, and overclocking really isn't something I intend to do. I've even done some googling for patriot ram, and I didn't get any amazing results. Will skip this, I think.Originally Posted by DratUK
Again, an unknown name. Less of an issue this time as, if I understand right, it's just an nVidia manufactured card with a pretty sticker on it, and I'll be sending back to the supplier not the manufacturer if it goes wrong anyway. Will bear this in mind, although if I can find a name I recognise I'll probably pay an extra tenner or so to have it.Originally Posted by DratUK
It's £50 more (ex. VAT) than the one I'm currently looking at ... gonna have to write this off. I'm already going with nForce 680i, so I don't think I'll lose that much.Originally Posted by DratUK
Just a case of getting the right price for this one .... definitely going to be the 6300.Originally Posted by DratUK
Depends when they'll be in. Hoping to possibly order early next week. Am far too impatient to wait foreverOriginally Posted by DratUK
Thanks for all that, DratUK ... much appreciated. I guess the things I'm most unsure about are the RAM, the case and the PSU. The Mobo, GFX card and CPU are fairly certain now.
Anyone have any good alternative cases they can recommend? I'm wanting 550W min, ideally 600W+ for the system, so integrated PSUs, while nice, are just a waste of money currently, even if the case IS nice and quiet; my primary criterium, if I'm honest. In terms of the RAM, I'm still considering getting 4Gb up front of the PC6400 stuff, rather than 2Gb of PC8800, but then that will leave me short of expansion opportunities later. Then again, I guess I could just replace the whole lot when I upgrade the ram!!
More comments still very welcome from all ... thanks everyone for the thoughts so far

Lian LI G70 ftw.
IMO memory higher than DDR2-800 speed is too expensive and is purely aimed at the overclocking market. DDR2-1000 or whatever is not an official standard like DDR2-533, 667, and 800 are. I believe most of the 800+ rated memory is "factory sanctioned overclocked" i.e. lower speed memory that has been tested to run at a higher speed at increased voltage.
I'd go with clunk on this. Any Lian Li is worth the investment.
Memory is always a sticking point, and I agree going with a well known name gives a sense of security. In which case its gonna be Corsair/OCZ. OCZ is marginally cheaperif u look around.

Estasis 650 watt. Yes I know its an unknown name, however Estasis manufacture for Silverstone Tech and they are quality. Here is a review of the 850 watt version

Now I am gonna shut up and let you make the desicions around here
Ok, final final spec, I hope ... just a double-check now to make sure I've not missed anything obvious.
Please let me know if you spot anything or have any last minute absolute must-haves ...
Not as far as i can see.
EVGA Board is 179 at Scan as opposed to 187 at Aria
MSI Card is 386 at Scan, 404 at Aria
E6300 is 119 at Scan, 125 at Aria
Plus saving the cost of 2 deliveries and I think you would also qualify for free shipping from Scan under the Hexus Scan Loyalty prog see here
http://forums.hexus.net/announcement.php?f=49&a=9
I would then add an after market CPU cooler such as the Artic Cooling 7 Pro or a Scythe Infinity.
Hope this saves you a few quid.
Thanks for that ... not sure I'd qualify though. Am I active enough? I've barely posted at all for ages before starting to with this request for help with my new computer.
Thanks for pointing out my idiocy at not checking the prices between those two ... LOL
Are those coolers quiet?
The Scythe is extremely quiet. The AC can be run quietly while maintaining decent performance. Scythe is a good chunk better, but costs much more, and due to it's sheer size, doesn't always fit in cases.
Presuming the scythe would fit in the eclipse tho? Tis quite a big case, I think?
Sycthe I think will be an issue because of the Dominator Ram and thier high profile and the Sycthes overhang, it'll not fit. The AC will so far as i can see.
Hopefully someone can confirm that before the day is out.
The AC will fit for definite, just checked.

That'll teach me for being so impatient. Had placed the order!! I've now contacted Scan to ask them to double check whether it will fit and to swap the Scythe for the AC HSF if there's a problem.
Thank you for checking ... appreciate it
Lots of pictures now available at http://etheav8r.googlepages.com/p180
Hope they help.
ASUS Commando looks like it will be awsome, mine hase come up first time with Corsair Dominator 8500 - no need to phaff about with a stick of el-cheapo RAM to get it going, and I think the the 680i will be a complete waste of money, Commando is fast at stack and hugely overclockable. Save your monet and go with you original thought the Commando!
