    TFT monitors

Ok, im quite set on asking for one for xmas, i guess around 300-350, iv been told 15ms refresh isnt as good as 20ms ? but more than 20ms isnt good for games/movies? and i should get 24bit? is that 16.9 million colours?

Can you recomend me a monitor? im after:

£300-350 ( can do abit more if its worth it )
    Good for games/movies
    17"
    Silver preferred
I dont really want USB/Firewire or Speakers on it, i would really prefer not to have them!

also, iv heard stories of dead pixels? is this common? more common on some makes? is it really annoying?

Thansk for any replied, im going to bed now, so ill check it tomorrow

    Thanks guys

Tom's Hardware. They're up to part IV of their guide. You can read the previous guides of theirs and maybe you can find something you like.

Tho I have to say the Hercules proview 920 seems the LCD of choice from recent reviews including a very good hexus one right here

    Hyundai ImageQuest Q17.

    £350
    17"
    DVI(cable included)
    Silver
    Slim bezel
USB hub in base(useful for connecting your USB mouse, keyboard, mp3 player, camera etc)
    2 speakers integrated into base.
Power supply integrated into base.(No external power supply brick)
And to top it all off, a fantastic dead pixel warranty. 3 dead pixels and Hyundai will replace the monitor for you. Other manufacturers require you to have more than double or even treble that before replacing the screen.

As you can tell, I've ordered one and it's on it's way to me!

    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/default2.asp

Ordered one from there. £344 all in is a cracking price.

The thing people were saying about 10/15ms TFT's compared to the 20ms ones were that the lower ms ones actually used alot less colours, which in turn allowed them to refresh faster due to not having to draw as many colours. But I also heard that they use the full amount of colours when there is not fast action going on, so it could be a win/win situation, but I have never seen one for myself so I can't say....

Dead pixels are a fact of TFTs, you may have some, you may not, and most manufacturers say that you need at least 5 (Apple say 8, others say 6, all depends on who) before they will consider you for an RMA, which can really ruin in, especially considering how much you pay for them.

can any one explain to me the refresh as well? seems most TFT's are 60hz, which kills your eyes on a CRT, but how does this compare? as TFT's dont scan? do they??

Thanks guys, i like the look of that one btw

    Gr44,

Can I hijack plz?!? I'm after the same kind of thing but only with a black bezel to match my black widow. I've read Tom Hardware's review and I'm tempted by the Hercules ProphetView 920 Pro 17" LCD Monitor but anybody else got anything else thats got a very slim bezel around the edges, no speakers etc etc
Signature in development ... please be patient

*i think* on a tft the pixel is left 'on' longer. on a crt, the refresh needs to be so fast as the colour would disappear very fast. on a tft, the colour on the pixel hangs around for ages in comparison, so it doesn't need to update as often.
