Shuttle PSU

We have some shuttles here at work and a couple have developed issues.
The model is Shuttle XPC SS59G10

1 - PSU fan issue, basically the bareing on the 40mm psu fan is going and it's starting to make grindy noises.
(anyone know if the fans are solidered on? or pluged? inside a shuttle psu?)

2 - The 2nd on is more serious, the 92mm PWM fan has died (temp fix with an 80mm non-pwm I had) however the +12v has seriously dropped, getting a reading of 11.5 in bios, and after 5min of just sitting in bios the psu fan starts really hitting some high speeds, very loud and rattles the whole case.

A new 92mm pwm fan is not a problem, just not sure about replacement psu's
I've asked our service contract people if they can source replacement psu's and how much?

Just wondering what? and where from? so I can have a base idea of price and spec and not get overcharged

SS59G10?..

Shuttle only have an SS59G and an SS59GV2 listed in their products lists, and googling just confuses the matter. Seems like they had a different name for them at some point.

So far as Shuttle PSUs go:

1 - Plugged, opened one last week.

2 - They aren't cheap, best I've seen them is from gemma.co.uk which is a UK Shuttle reseller which puts a 250W model at £65.79 Inc. VAT. They're generally more expensive everywhere else. Also worth noting they don't have a 200W one listed, which is what the specs of the SS59G says it has.

Most people only seem to stock the 300W psu upgrade, though perhaps that is a good idea anyway for the extra tenner?

well the sticker on the bottom says SS59G10
It's a SiS chipset and p4 so I'm guessing it's the GV2
And a 200w psu

So a higher wattage wouldn't go a miss

Well, you don't have to use a 'Shuttle branded' PSU.

The type of PSU your after is a Flex ATX 1U.

There are plenty of different one's available on the market.

For one with a very good fan, Seventeam's 220W ST-220FUB has a Sunon Maglev fan. But other manufacturers also offer Flex ATX 1U units as well.

You can also get like for like replacements at good prices if you like, ie AM630BS20S made by Achme. or branded ENG and still made by original manufacturer Achme.

Price wise I think the Seventeam 220W is about £42/43 delivered and has a 2yr warranty.

And the ENG/Achme one's are around £28 delivered but only have 90 day warranty. >>edit: Is also A-grade stock, has been fitted and removed from systems but never used. Think that's why it is so cheap, as manufacturers warranty probably not be valid any more. But they are supposed to have been fully tested, might be the best value option. Certainly better than a used one.

Not sure if I can put links up for them or not, as some are on the bay, but also from a UK seventeam Disty.

Hopefully that's also helpful and will save you a lot of money that you would only be paying to have one with Shuttle brand name on it, even when its made by the same PSU manufacturers as some listed above, like the Achme one.

Wow because this model has been discontinued, the original suppliers of the shuttle have quoted us £105 ex-vat for an original shuttle replacement.
I'm starting to see a major issue with shuttles now.

I understand what you mean, but then I am after a replacement ATX psu for my media centre PC, and all the candidates seem to be 50 quid or more despite me not needing much power from it.

Edit to add: This is why I tend to buy cheaper Shuttles though, that way I don't feel bad about simply junking the chassis if it fails out of warranty. The wife currently has a medium priced Shuttle, will see how that goes (but she loves it, and that has a value).

What size is the PSU your replacing?

That seems like a whole lotta of money for a PSU that has a Shuttle branded box around it.

I would check Ebay as there are new Shuttle PSUs for sale from a number of sellers:

This one looks a potential replacement as it looks similar to the one in other G series cases AFAIK:

That FSP one's been murded. Fancy suffocating it in a plastic bag
Could be DOA when you get it

A few more here. One's at top look OK for just direct replacement of older PC30 PSU replacement, no sata though and just 20pin ATX + 4-pin AUX and 2 molex. Suppose you could aways use a molex to SATA adapter cable so new drives can be used.
