    Re: 30 Second Phone Charger

No mention of capacity or the C rate. Just to put it into perspective, a 1000mAh battery would need to current of 1 amp to charge ion an hour, 60 amps to charge in a minute, and 120 amps to charge in 30 seconds, assuming 100% conversion efficiency.

The cables didn't look anything like capable of carrying 120 Amps, so I guess the capacity is limited, the theory being charge a low capacity battery more often, but quicker. So you might be charging the phone every six hours instead of every 24.

I always thought it was better to slow charge (trickle) batteries?

Depends on the batteries. Charging these days can be quite advanced with batteries containing sensors to safely support it. I like "burp charging" just cos it sounds funny

“burp charging ”is very convenient, saves time, but I'm not sure if it is safe

Sounds very interesting. It would be really awesome if it's true. Safety issues is a different matter though.

It is, 'FAST' charging (Using high charge currents) will breakdown cells significantly faster than 'SLOW' charging (Using low charge currents). It also reduces their current holding capacity significantly quicker, I never FAST charge my mobile phones unless it's an emergency. Trickle charge over-night is the sensible way to charge mobiles/cells imho.

    Re: 30 Second Phone Charger

This is incredible! Although, I've seen something similar about charging a phone battery almost instantaneously, or well, in 5 seconds. There was also a story on how a teen invented a method in charging a phone battery in a time span over 20-30 seconds.
However back to that 5 second charging story, using a new type of super-capacitor that has been created, enables that:

For this to be decent in any way i would say its about 3-5 years before enough testing is done and it actually hits the high street.

    Re: 30 Second Phone Charger

s4 has 2600 mah battery thats pretty good thirty sec charge, im not a fan of 'twice as expensive final product.'
Ive a phone with a 3200 battery, a spare battery, a battery bank. A charge we easily last me daily, unless im chromecasting a film or something.

technology is fun, always more fun at this pie in sky stage though.
