8" Android Tablets - Asus ZenPad 8s vs nVidia Shield K1

My Hudl 2 is getting a bit long in the tooth and crashy, so I was looking at a replacement and the above 2 seem to hit the price/performance sweet spot.

Does anyone have either? My mate's got the nVidia and it seems pretty sweet, and the 16gb memory is balanced by the fact it's got Marshmallow so can use SD cards as internal memory.

The Asus seems to have better specs and usually I'd jump right on it, but it's only running Android 5.0, and there don't seem to be any plans to update to MM.

Re: 8" Android Tablets - Asus ZenPad 8s vs nVidia Shield K1

Having had an Asus Android tablet, I'd stay away due to the amount of bloatware installed. Thanks to the latest update it can be disabled without resorting to a painful rooting process using the built in Android app management, though it was amusing when their built in power management software complained about their other build in software running at startup and draining the battery...

Ah yes, the X1. Not sure what it's going to be like. I guess I'm in no real hurry, just getting annoyed at the HUDL getting memory issues, then it failing when you try to transfer the apps to SD.

iPad Mini clone with Android? Good build quality and "retina" style screen...

Interesting tablet, the Mi Pad. It is a total rip off of the iPad Mini, but it does seem to have decent specs. And I would change the icon layout straight away. Don't want that looking like an iPad too...

Re: 8" Android Tablets - Asus ZenPad 8s vs nVidia Shield K1

Just noticed I linked to a Windows 10 version of the Mi Pad 2, it's actually cheaper than the Android version for some reason? The Android equivalent is here:

Silver version is cheaper, but out of stock.

I found a way to get to the Android one, just wondering if it will get updates. Not seen a lot of Xiaomi tablets to know.

Heh, that's pretty much exactly the tablet I was holding out for, until I grabbed the click mini. Kind of sad I didn't wait, but frankly the click mini is great and mine cost less than that.

Speaking of, if Android isn't a must, Toshiba Click mini is a great piece of kit. Getting harder to find nowadays, by the looks of it, but still available refurbed for < £150 if you hunt around.

How cheap are you willing to go? Refurbed Viglen 7" (1280x800) Win 8 tablet (should JUST make it in time for the free upgrade ) for £30? http://www.ebuyer.com/731625-refurb-...-5054402283795

Thanks, that Viglen does seem not too bad for the price, but I really wanted Android. Worth considering for a training tablet for the toddler though, at £30, it doesn't matter if it gets a bit 'fingerprinty'...

Yeah, for £30 it's almost disposable (but if you do dispose of one please do it responsibly ). I already have a Windows 10 tablet and I'm kind of tempted to grab one just to see if I can find a use for it! Kitchen tablet, maybe?

Asus ZenPad all the way! Don't get me wrong for Nvidia Shield Tablet but I haven't read pretty much enough reviews about it. And since Asus is one of the first tablets in the market I must say that I trusted the brand compare to Nvidia.
