    OnePlus 3

    Anyone going for the OP3?

I'm thinking of going to the popup event tomorrow just to check out how the phone feels in the hand and hopefully buy it on the spot if I like it. Don't really want to waste too much time queuing however! Specs are really tempting for the price although I think £299 would have been easier. £10 difference is not much but I must admit the psychology of it being £299 is a lot more attractive than it being priced at £309.

    Link:
    https://oneplus.net/uk/oneplus-3

    Specs:
    CPU: Snapdragon 820
    RAM: 6GB LDDR4
    Storage: 64GB USF 2.0
    Screen: 5.5" Optic AMOLED 1080p
Main Camera: Sony IMX 298 16 MP 1.12 µm f/2.0 with OIS & EIS
    Selfie Camera: Sony IMX179 8 MP 1.4 µm f/2.0
    Others: NFC, Fingerprint sensor
    Dimensions: 152.7 x 74.7 x 7.35 mm
    Weight: 158 g

Reviews generally seem positive from what I've read.

    Re: OnePlus 3

Tempted but lacking SD card support, disappointing screen res, uninspired china land fill design and One+ customer support all tend to put me off.

I was tempted, but my OPO is still going strong - and has NFC. I think I can hold out another generation, but the price is very good for what you get.

Let us know what you think of the camera if you do try one out.

The One+3 also has NFC (if you were suggesting it didn't, sorry couldn't tell). The more I look at it the more I'm tempted but I think I need to sell a few phones first.

If it were 5" I think I'd have bought it, looks like a great all-round device reading the reviews. 64Gb internal much preferred to SD for me, as it's plenty of space.

To be fair I have an Umi Super which is exactly the same size as the One+3 and to be honest it's really easy to use one handed unlike my Nexus 6P. Currently trying to convince work that we need to test a One+3.

No Oppo is the company supposedly behind One+, Cyanogen originally did the western phone version OS for the original phone and maybe others but they soon fell out with each other and now official Cyanogen support has been dropped I believe.

I heard they took NFC out to save costs on the OP2 and OPX, couldn't see NFC mentioned in the specs for the OP3 so just presumed it was still out. Slightly more tempting if they have brought it back..

OnePlus had a deal with Cyanogen to do the OS for the OP1 (and 2?) but they rolled their own version called OxygenOS for the OPX and OP3 since things got a little sour between OnePlus and Cyanogen. Something to do with India IIRC.

Hmm, I'm a bit disappointed in the screen specs. I'm not a big fan of AMOLED as-is but 'only' 1080p is probably low enough for it to look grainy with the PenTile matrix, and being AMOLED in general means it's susceptible to the usual burn-in problems. That part just feels like a big step backwards, which is a shame because the rest looks spot-on, on paper at least.

    Re: OnePlus 3

So we've just received a One+ 3 in the office this morning. First impressions are that it's a really nice phone, quality appears to be high and it's easy to hold in my hand. I'm convinced, I'll get work to order me one if I can.

    Re: OnePlus 3

Subjectively, how's the screen? PenTile means the effective resolution is a bit lower than a comparable RGB display and I imagine at the size of the OP3 it would be noticeable? I think I'm particularly sensitive to it though; the newer high-DPI ones are fine but the likes of the S3 mini appeared very grainy to me, far more so than comparable LCD displays.

Spec-wise it does seem pretty epic for the money, and the software looks pretty nice too. But compared to some of the big brands it seems it's not as well optimised yet?

To my eyes the screen is excellent, very natural looking. Can't see hardly any grain at all. Not quite as good as my S6, but on a par with the 6P and colour temps on the One+ 3 are definitely better than the 6P.

The other thing is that as it's dual sim I don't have to carry two phones for the time being.
