Windows Phone - Amazon App being retired in August 2016

I wouldn't have thought a company would go out their way to a retire an app for Windows Phone with the Windows 10 user base growing and the UWP plan, but maybe that's just me.

I'm still on the melting iceberg of the Windows Phone platform with my three year old Lumia 620. I might be forced to jump off at some point, even though I do like the OS.

If more large companies/banks etc start pulling their apps it could kill off the Windows Phone platform, though I'm not sure why they would if the apps are transferable to Windows 10 in the UWP scenario.

I'm still there too but starting to doubt that I will be with my next device.

Looks like Amazon might be making a new app:

Because its an old non-UWP app that needs rewriting or updating, which would then stop it working on Windows Phone 8 anyway.

Windows Phone already died with the end of 8.1, the newest is Windows 10 Mobile.
Hopefully more companies get on board with the whole UWP write-once idea and release things for both Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile.

There we go then, its likely because they will be writing a nice new Windows 10 only UWP app that will work on both W10 and W10M.

For what its worth, I love my Windows phone, although was miffed the Lumia 925 wasnt getting W10M though. The so called "app gap" doesnt bother me either, the phone works as a phone, it does email, SMS and the tiny handful of other things i use it for.
