| Wiki Software Hello Hexus! Right well I have been asked by my boss to find some wiki software that is 1) Free and 2) usable offline, without the need to be uploaded to a server. The reason for this is we are planning on building a knowledge base for the Service Desk I work on, however the company won't provide us with even a little bit of server/ hosting space. I have noticed that some wiki software out there does allow offline using/ working by simply making the database available offline. So does anyone use? or has anyone used? any free, decent wiki software. Cheers in advance, DG LAN weekends, shall now be known as weekend of win! |

| Re: Wiki Software You don't need to have it on the internet if it is just an internal knowledge base, but host it on a server within your own network. Most Wiki software is free, at least the ones I've used are. MediaWiki is popular and has lots of extensions. |

| Re: Wiki Software Cheers Funkstar. Thats the thing, they dont want to give us server space on the network, we have to prove we need it. LAN weekends, shall now be known as weekend of win! |

| Re: Wiki Software Disturbed: Are you able to host it on your own machine at work? (not ideal I know, but people could be informed they need to go to http://192.168.x.x/ or http://DisturbedGuy/ for the wiki?) If so, get yourself Xampp( http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html ), make sure you run http://localhost/security/ before going live. Then get Dokuwiki ( http://www.dokuwiki.org/dokuwiki ) . If not, maybe Tiddly Backpack is something you could distribute to users? ( http://www.tiddlybackpack.com/ ). I found it by searching for 'portable wiki'. By the looks of the tour video it runs locally without an actual webserver, which is nice. EDIT: I've given it a go and it works in firefox and ie8 once you confirm the local security prompt, but I guess your users won't have this issue as they will only be reading it.
