mscorsvw.exe eated my chipz! Are there any other .NET developers out there who have this issue? As I understand it mscorsvw.exe (I think that's the correct executable, anyway) is a .NET optimisation tool that pre-compiles the core assemblies in the background. At least, it's theoretically a background task, but on my slightly underpowered work laptop (it's OK, I'm fighting for a new desktop to develop on but the budget's a bit tight) it chomps up to 1.5GB of virtual memory and the rest of the computer grinds to a shuddering halt whenever it's running (which takes over 2 hours, usually). For my money that's not really an "optimisation" ![]() It's damn frustrating - does anyone know of any way to configure it to be less of a resource hog, or to neatly prevent/stop it (at the moment the only way I've found is to end the process via task manager, which always feels a bit fraught with danger to me...)? // // TODO: Add witty signature here //

Re: mscorsvw.exe eated my chipz! If I think I understand what you've said... You can lower the priority and core affinities in Task manager, just right click the process. I Hope.....

Re: mscorsvw.exe eated my chipz! Cool, thanks, I'll give that a go next time it runs: although I thought that just affected the CPU usage of the process, which isn't really the problem; it's the vast amount of VM it reserves (and potentially the heavy disk IO that the compilation *also* requires) that seems to slow the system down.... Frankly, I think next time it happens I'll just get my boss to watch me trying to type an email - that should see some budget freed up pretty quickly // // TODO: Add witty signature here //
