Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home

Just loaded the SMP client to this machine, setup was pretty painless really, just followed the instructions (on vista x64) and it folding away quite happily, approx 9-10 mins per 1% atm

Used to run SETI a few years ago, however FAH is a more worthwhile project I think..will leave first contact up to the boys @ NASA

Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home

I haven't done folding for years now. I thought I'd give it a go now that i have my 8core mac. Just one thing the beta mac version seems to run 4 processes in my activity monitor does this means its only running off 4 cores on one processor?

    I am confused.

If you have 8 cores, you will need to run the quad core client twice

Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home

I am not sure how I would open it twice though because on OS X you don't run F@H like an normal application. I am probably wrong though.
I want to see how many WUs I can do with both processors running all night

i've only got a laptop, dual-core, but it is on 24/7, with me present only 4 hours a day

would it be worth doing this? and is this harmful for the computer at all? make my fan wear out quicker etc

    Every little helps!

if its a laptop, remember that its taking your precious battery time if its not plugged in though.

^.^ Im slowly climbing the leaderboards, hopefully a little faster now with a 39% overclock.

now i dont want to knock you down man, but its pretty much about how many points that unit actually is worth. it could be less than 100 it could be more than 1000. i think though that the ps3's are about 1000 points per day. which is none too shabby for a console that sits in a corner, and laughs at everything that isnt smp or gpu

Not at all mate, in fairness I know not very much of what I speak. I used to run UD a fair while back when I had a PC worth running it on and I remember it taking much longer on a unit thats my only basis for comparison. Just chuffed that the PS3 can sit in the corner and do something until MGS4 comes out, it'd be a shame if once I'm done with uncharted it became a blu-ray player.

gtech is going to stab you in the pooper

anyways, keep it folding, you will blitz past a bunch of people and hopefully catch the bug and take it up a notch

edit: after a quick look it makes 900ppd. which would get you up to 16th in our producers list o peeps. not bad at all for a single small box.

    Yay!!!

I've finally got my Folding PC off the ground...

Just need to optimise it so that I can run SMP on both cores and then set up teh GPU client too. THEN I should start churning some points....
