    Setting default program

    Hi,

I am running Vista home premuim with all updates and had office 2000 installed. I updated this to Office 2003 and updated but now have a problem. I have an access file but cannot set the default program to open this file. I have gone through the process of browsing for the Access program in the program folder them ticking the box to always open this type of file with this program but nothing happens.

Any ideas on how I can to set the default program

Office 2000 was probably uninstalled when you upgraded. You sure your copy of Office 2003 comes with Access? Which version did you get?

    Re: Setting default program

have a look in control panel->default programs->associate a file type or protocol with a program. try setting it in there.

or you could try having a look in the start menu for the office section, and under 'office tools' there should be an office diagnostics, run that, see what happens. office 2003 might not have this button, i'm using 2007 and cant remember whether 03 has the same tool.

cant think of anything else to try or check.

    Re: Setting default program

I think I have solved the issue by changing the way macros are handled and set this to a low setting. I can now set the default program to Access 2003. I don't understand why this has corrected the issue but it seems to have done the trick
