It's alright if their test machines are fine, what about the ones reporting the problems, i.e. the users who will be the ones buying it xD

From Firex himself, its a chipset issue and the advise is to update the drivers That's great if they exist xD

They test via RC's and the like but how many actually do return the feedback MS are looking for I know I certainly did when I was testing but then I know a load more that downloaded it as it was free and weren't concerned about the testing :/

I have a feeling they won't either as others on this forum have had run in's with Intel when their stance is "It's EOL so there will be no future support".

The Windows 7 RC1 works flawlessly on the netbook and when I had it on the desktop I noticed the Vista file bug was back where it would grind to a halt when copying files. Was strange though as I never suffered it on Vista at all.

I am assuming Intel will be waiting for this to be Gold and on the Shelves before they do a Chipset Installation Utility for Windows 7. They were the same for Vista also from memory with older chipsets at the time.

    Re: Windows 7 RTM

When the "show stopping bug" story broke there was plenty of us seeing if we could repro - noone I saw was able to bugcheck the system at all.

I even tried to provoke it by having only 512MB RAM and no paging file - the virtual bytes for chkdsk.exe grew and capped at ~128MB but I didn't get crazy CPU usage and at the end of the run it was all released.

That the program doesn't throw an exception or hang, and it releases all the virtual memory on exit would imply it's not a leak, just high resource usage - which isn't unusual given the purpose of the tool...

by the way what the heck does this mean?
If you retrieved a key for the Windows 7 Beta or RC, a Windows 7 key has been provided for your convenience.

    Re: Windows 7 RTM

My key was pre-generated as I had grabbed both RC and Beta from Technet. You can install and then add the license key in a few days when things are a little calmer, of course.

I wouldn't worry too much about the keys, I always install without a key and ensure the system doesn't have any issues with drivers or applications, or in case I need to re-partition or change active partitions - only much later do I bother activating and entering the key.
