    Installed XP, Drivers wont install

Ive installed XP Pro SP3 on my laptop and it hasn't found/ recognised my: VGA/Network controller/SM Bus controller/audio device on HD audio bus.

I tried installing the CCC & Driver package for my chipset (radeon xpress 200m) and it 'cant find the hardware' :/ so i haven't bothered trying the other stuff - i dont even know what i should be searching for, driver wise, seen as i cant see the device names/models.

So, am i fecked or is their a way round this ?

Re: Installed XP, Drivers wont install

Ive had to use the original VGA drivers it would seem (circa 06) and im now running at native res, also used the vanilla wireless drivers i know haz wireless. Need to see if i can sort the audio and SM bus, BTW what is a SM bus

Edit: CCC & newer driver is still giving me errors saying it cant find hardware compatible with driver :/

Re: Installed XP, Drivers wont install

According to MS the latest version of the UAA hotfix was included in SP3, but it might be worth downloading the hotfix (link at top of that page) anyway. It also suggests uninstalling UAA 1.0 first, so if you upgraded from SP2 to SP3 that might be an issue.

Not sure about the graphics stuff mind you - the HD Audio bus shouldn't effect that. Since you've got wireless now I take it you've just tried throwing the whole thing at Microsoft Update and seeing what happens?

Re: Installed XP, Drivers wont install

It probably will install the newer drivers, it'll just need a little prompting, since video drivers tend not to support desktop and mobile GPUs unversally, even though they're quite capable of it. In nVidia land, before nVidia got their act together, there used to be LaptopVideo2Go, who'd make custom inf's that enabled the standard nVidia drivers to recognise and install for the mobile device IDs. The same's probably true for ATI. Google around, or just tweak the Inf yourself if you know how. Good luck with it.
