    SQL Server 5.5

    Hi all,

    Hopefully someone can help. A friend of mine is trying to install SQL Server 5.5 on a Windows Server 2003 machine, however after the install when the SQL Server process is supposed to start, the process just crashes.

    The server is a new, clean box and this is the first version of SQL Server to be installed on the server.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    There is no "SQL Server 5.5"
    What SQL server is it? MySQL? The earliest version of Microsoft SQL server I know of is 6.5 and if your mate is trying to install that or an earlier version than that on server 2003, he should be shot TBH.

    Re: SQL Server 5.5

    As above there is no version 5.5.

    4.21 was the first Windows version (NT) and then straight to 6.0 which wasn't even called Microsoft SQL Server prior to version 7 as Microsoft "acquired" it from Sybase.

    Re: SQL Server 5.5

    My guess would be he's referring to MySQL 5.5.

    I've only ever dealt with MySQL on Linux/FreeBSD/OpenSolaris unfortunately (well, fortunately for me).

    I'd say check file permissions and the config file for errors, and there's an error log (probably in the event log on Windows) so it's maybe worth consulting that.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();
