New Linux nVidia graphics drivers 61.06

existing nvidia users kill off X (e.g. "/etc/init.d/gdm stop" as root) and run "nvidia-installer --update" to download & install the latest drivers

    supports new cards:
    GeForce 6800 Ultra
    GeForce 6800
    Quadro FX 4000
    GeForce 6800/GeForce 6800 Ultra
    GeForce 6800 Ultra
    GeForce PCX 5750
    GeForce PCX 5900
    GeForce PCX 5300
    GeForce PCX 4300
adds the nvidia-settings control panel window replacement (screens in a minute)

seems about 5% faster on my ti4200

    stand-alone installer is here

    want a secret?

all the nvidia graphics driver tools - the installer and the control panel - are 100% GPL

in real terms, ATI could use the nvidia installer & control panel on their linux efforts, free of charge, and wouldn't have to stick an nvidia name anywhere but in the source.

    zip, free, nada.

sheer pig-headed pride is why the ati drivers are so hellish to install. the development work has already been done for free by nvidia.

performance, well we'll save that for another day
