Give me some input on this design...

Well, Im really stuck on a design im working on. Its for a site that (may) one day be hosted on hexus. Along with a friend of mine on the my.opera.com/forums.

    Heres the pic

Tell me what you think, what needs to be changed? This aint the first design ive had for this site. And probably wont be the last. I just canne make my mind up about it at all! thats about the 5th design image Ive done on it today! :|

So far ive had the following schemes:
Black, with DarkGrey titles and borders, with white text.
The opposite of above (looked even worse)
The one I posted (unfortunately my best so far.)
One with the colour scheme of the first, but with diagonal corners.

No offense, but I personally abhor the horizontal interlacing in that sample image and in general. It does weird things when you scroll up and down.

What exactly is this eventually to be? That would help with regard to the design.

A site devoted to advertising the fact that thier aint only one browser on the market. And, web standards; pushing web masters to creating sites that work in not only one browser. But ALL standards compliant browsers.

Ie, its meant to help open the web...

Been working on it again, seems my webdesigners block has lossened its grip on me. Have a look at the logo, and please post your opinions.

Bit big, but looks OK The horizontal interlacing looks nice if the colours aren't so contrasted. Pick two dark colours or two light colours and try again.

Look at http://www.uh-hosting.co.uk/ for an example, James and the guys get it right with a 2 colour interlaced background image.

My personal advice would be to go and visit loads of different websites and see what you think looks best. Then apply loads of different features of that to yours but using your own content and graphics etc.

There are standard layouts that you will notice in websites ie a header followed by a navigation bar, then the main page in the middle and then the spare column on the right hand side along with a footer.

I knows, but I like experimenting, I normally do fairly plain and simple designs. Dont seem to like my own designs that are OTT...

I likes it as it is though, waiting for some feedback from the dude im working on the site with.

quite ncie, but i'm not too big a fan of the lines, but as Rys said take a look at that UH site by shelldesign. it's lovely

also stick some news posts and navigation onto the image, that way you'll get a better impression of what people think, as it'll probably look alot different.

Been busy again peeps, this is just a rough first draft. There are a few things in it that I aint happy with. But Ill change them when I actually make the site for the first time in Dreamweaver.

What do you guys think of it so far?

A semi finished version, just some code cleaning (used dreamweaver) and making the CSS linked to a file instead of in the header of the HTML and its all complete.

tbh i prefered the first one, though i am one to like clean flatness.

but thats some good work, esp if you are sticking to xhtml/css

remember minimalis can look good, and be esier on the eye, its no good if your user has a fit whils lookig at it

i liked you first one, but IMO scanlines look better on dark backgrounds
