Optical Drive, now comes with malware!

    Hey guys,
I got a new optical drive recently and as I was installing the software I was logging into Facebook
then 1 hour later my facebook gets hacked and very bad status' are posted from an app called "microsoft"
Then my PC got a BSOD, and this happened until...
I installed Kaspersky to my PC and it said the malware had come from the supplied Optical Drive software.
I will not name the drive because I don't know if I just had a dodgy disk and I don't want to turn people against it. It is a brilliant drive but the software is a no go!

But you were happy to log into facebook in the meantime? *shakes head*

What software did you need for the optical disk that was urgent anyway?

There are instances of malware getting into OEM disks, have you contacted the store/manufacturer? This is unlikely to be a one off.

If you have logged into any other password protected sites, you should change the passwords - now. It sounds (from the limited description) as if it could have been key logging software, so compromising many accounts.

Re: Optical Drive, now comes with malware!

It was the Samsung S222BB/RSMS (I think it is called) I was dowloading the Samsung Live Firmware update because I was cautious to see if it needed a firmware update. The reason I went on facebook is because my brother rung me and said my nephew needed some PC help and he sent me a message on facebook. I had to reinstall Windows in the end because it was causing a lot of problems but everything is ok now.

I installed it from the disk and Microsoft and Kaspersky and Malwarebytes all said it was malware and Kaspersky and Malwarebytes both said it was that file

Does a scan of the disk (pre-install) pick it up?
