    Re: Blu-ray Software

Yeah after checking the comparisons of the software I noticed that the standard edition didn't support Blu-ray playback

I got a response from Pioneer but it basically said that they no longer produce or offer support for the UK or European market meaning that the retailer of the drive is importing them..... Which means that the problem lies with Scan...... Oh goodie.......

I will wait and see what CyberLink say but no doubt they will say that it's the retailers fault for bundling it with out of date software.

...... Does anyone want to contact Scan for me??

All drives intentionally ship with out of date software - Cyberlink sell OEM PowerDVD to drive manufacturers for a couple of quid a pop, on the basis that you'll need to upgrade to a paid version almost straight away.

    Re: Blu-ray Software

Doesn't the software prevent playback over DVI, and only allow HDMI as part of it's DRM ?
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

HDCP over DVI-D should be no problem, depending on the monitor. The fact it's working with the trial of powerdvd12 also suggests his current connection is fine.

Cyberlink's Blu-Ray Advisor (http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/bd-support/enu/index.jsp) will tell you if your HDCP chain is okay or not, without needing to spend money.

But then shouldn't the retailers be stopped from selling retail drives with out-of-date software resulting in the drive been unable to do what it was bought for?

Yeah things are working fine through PowerDVD 12 so the problem is the software that shipped with the retail drive.

I've ran the software (PowerDVD prompts you to download and run it when it fails to launch the blu-ray disk) but like I mentioned earlier, everything comes back as "OK/Pass" so I'm not sure why it wont just work.....

I'm hoping to get a response back from both CyberLink and Scan about the issue, if it can't be sorted I will just RMA the drive because it is not fit for purpose and buy one that ships with up-to-date software to actually play Blu-rays because at the moment its just a £70 DVD drive......

    Re: Blu-ray Software

Ok, after a LOT of talking with CyberLink and trying just about everything nothing would get PowerDVD 9 to play Blu-ray disks on my computer so they have offered me a free upgrade to the latest version of PowerDVD to see if that solves the problem I am having. I guess waiting it out paid off in the end

Yeah its a support ticket system, they will try and say its your systems GPU or processor but just stick with it and you should get the free upgrade

    Rookie

Oh and make sure to mention that the competitions "free trial" software works and plays Blu-ray disks on your system just fine
