Web Managment & Web Development: Whats the difference?

To some one on the outside the differences may seem obvious i.e one is the managing of the site and the other is the building of the site. This is what i thought, but in uni their doing a Web Management course where u learn all different languages (html, css, cgj, flash, java php\MySql etc) along with development packages such as the macromedia and adobe products. So i thought if all this stuff is to be learned what the heck is Web development, surely the same things are learned? The reason i ask this is because im thinking of chaning from soft eng to Web Managment and i wanted some sort of information between the two (such as salaries , jop prospects etc) before i make a decision.

hmm i would have thought the same as you

strange they're teaching the managment types how to code, maybe its to stop these knobjockey managers IT Depts. always seem to have, who know nothing about coding and expect you to know up a database with full documented schema and appropriate website design in 10 minutes.

anyways back OT, any chance you could get hold of the courses syllabus from the Uni?

The first year is the same for every one doing a computer related degree. I think its somthing to do with people finding out what the really like and dont like and then changing courses if needbe. In the 2nd year we divide into our respective degrees. As you can see web devopment is part of the course but i would have thought this was a bigger area than web managment.
