    GeForce Experience?

    Heya,

Just a quick one - Is this GeForce Experience actually worth it?
Most of my friends don't bother, but I do wonder... usually every time I update the driver.

I don't have a Shield™ and I live on forums so always know when there's a new driver within a day or two of release.
I like the idea of auto-optimising my games (because I still don't know what all that stuff actually does) and I would probably use the recording feature on ShadowPlay, assuming you can do 20+ minutes?

    Whaddya reckon?

    Re: GeForce Experience?

For anyone who doesn't have the time or knowledge to adjust settings themselves, I think it's great. But they should get a console instead and have an even better experience.

Well I know what some stuff does obviously, but I don't always find much of a performance difference in the fine tuning. I didn't even know to turn V-Sync off in AC:IV!!

    Re: GeForce Experience?

the thing I've noticed with the NVidia experience and the AMD equivalent is that the settings can be way off, especially in online games.
the settings seem to be set as low as possible to maybe get higher fps (which is useful online I'm told). so I tend to ignore them at all times.

example being. battlefield 3, textures want to be in low, AA off, shadows high. mine are in ultra, 4x MSAA and ultra and its still silky smooth.
even crisis 2 wants to be in high settings, when ultra works.

my default settings are to bung all the 'low/medium/high' types to the highest, and the x2/x4 ones to x4 and then play it at that. but i'm only on a 1680x1050 monitor so that may not work for you.

but what do I know about whether games are 'playable' at different settings. I played crisis 1 on a radeon 9500 at 15fps (max) in very low settings. and it was still 'playable'. helped that the collision boxes didn't load on the aliens because of lack of PC power

    Re: GeForce Experience?

I'm on a mere 1920x1080, so it probably doesn't matter so much.
I generally switch everything to max and occasionally find weird things that fix it better (I always thought Vsync was a good thing to enable), but only through trial & error/messing.

It's when you wonder what difference Mantle™ and PhysX™ and TressFX™ and Anything-Else™ with a ™ after it actually make. You look up on their webbies and it all just "does stuff".

    Meh.
I might use ShadowPlay then, but continue messing on my own initiative.

    Re: GeForce Experience?

The way these programs run is that they work out your optimal settings through statistical correlation rather than any specific technical cleverness. With new games they often don't have an option to optimise your game as there is not enough data available, or not enough people are playing the game at the point.

Plus I thought you were using a 6950, it would be more useful if you are using an nVidia card, IIRC.

    Re: GeForce Experience?

Results are looking good so far - 3 like it, 1 does not and a further 3 are dancing with their babies in Summer Rain!!

I think I will leave it on, for the ShadowPlay but keep everything else disabled. Can always uninstall...

I didn't actually cast a vote, I have it installed at the moment, not sure if I will install it after my re-install, once I can be bothered enough to actually deal with reinstalling my PC that is.

    Re: GeForce Experience?

It's ok as long as you don't care how the games look!

I've allowed it to "optimise" a few times to see what it does and at least 50% of the time it has chosen at least 1 retarded setting (i.e. setting things like AF off) and also it seems to struggle to get many things right at resolutions over 1200p (perhaps this will start to change with the proliferation of 4k screens?)....

At the end of the day, how hard is it to go into graphics settings when a game is running too slow for you and tweak down the setting(s) you can live without the most?

I've always used it to give me the base settings to get 60 fps and above. I'll then tweak it a little to maybe remove detail I don't need or add something I particularly like.
