    Latest Firefox - privacy beware!

So as usual Firefox recently updated itself and starting banging on about how they are the most trusted, privacy aware browser etc etc.

But look carefully at the new version of Tiles (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/tiles/) and you'll see that by default, FF is now tracking your browser history and using it to show you 'interesting and relevant' adverts, sorry, 'sponsored pages'. Hardly actions suitable for a browser going on about privacy.

Make sure you use the settings icon to switch Tiles back to classic (non-tracking) mode.

I stopped using FireFox a long time ago, it was that long ago that I can't even remember why. In your opinion, is this is a good browser? How would you rate it over Chrome and IE?

I use different browsers for different things. I find FF the best for plug-ins, which is a double-edged sword of course and you have to apply the same scrutiny to a plug-in as you would to a browser.

I try and avoid using plug-ins, and will do everything I can to not load up my browsers with toolbars.

Re: Latest Firefox - privacy beware!

I like and use FF over IE and Chrome, as I can configure it to do what I want and use a few useful plug-ins to make things more secure that I feel I can with the others. Perhaps it's just what I'm used to, but with Duck Duck Go, HTTPS Everywhere, Ghostery, Web of Trust, Adblock plus and No Script it works the way I want it to. Yes, I do need to keep an eye on the plug ins but I see that as a reasonable price to pay for free and safe browsing. I also don't have any extra toolbars.

My settings seem to be unchanged, and regarding comments about plugins, the only ones I use are for security, like NoScript and Ad-Block, since I've had issues with some google ads in the past being compromised.

Ahh, I'm now happy I always set the "New Tab" to blank page.

There is definitely nothing wrong with a few well reviewed add-ons such as Adblock-Plus, No Script and HTTPS Everywhere. I run IceWeasel on Crunchbang with these add-ons and they are definitely a help than hindrance.

I use FF only because my wife uses chrome on MY PC. Easier to sync bookmarks and tabs with my Android devices. If I had the choice, it would be Chrome.

Re: Latest Firefox - privacy beware!

I've tried Firefox but I just prefer the way Chrome syncs with everything I have without much effort at all. I've got 2 laptops (Mac and a chromebook), desktop and my mobile. All run chrome and I can switch between tabs on different devices. I'm sure you can on Firefox but because I'm a heavy Google service user it's easier for me to use chrome.

One can argue all day that it's not the quickest etc etc but it suits my needs perfectly.

Perhaps that means you don't mind Google using its boundless knowledge about you to target you for marketing purposes...

I don't because in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. If I had something to hide, it would bother me, but it really doesn't.

Re: Latest Firefox - privacy beware!

Don't you think Google analytics initialize with chrome. .
    Bottom line...
As a developer I have to use 3 major browsers (FF,Chrome,IE) daily and I still very happy with FF. Also Gecko engine (based on Netscape foundations) far more advance than any WebKit engine. We can clearly notify the power by automating them with some browser automation like Selenium.

and bottom bottom line .. I never used tiles with FF .
