Public beta available of "AntiSpyware" available

    http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx

Not really looked in great detail at this product, but it seems to offer full system scans, real-time protection, manual system restore points, investigation of ActiveX plugins, running processes & startup programs and a privacy tool "tracks eraser".

Ran it on my system and it said WinPcap (network packet capturing filter) "might" be something to look at, but as I have Ethereal installed I selected to "ignore always" - it was interesting to see Messenger Plus! remnants even though it's been uninstalled for weeks, though...

Interesting it found 2 further sets of registry entries that SpywareGuard, SpywareBlaster and Spybot all missed too...

Usually to test software and offer feedback for improvements or report bugs so they can be fixed before release?

i heard that it's pretty powerful, though still buggy and very system intensive

might give it a try, and if it can clean up some real messes i've had to deal with recently it's a big win for microsoft in my eyes

Because spyware does not only come into your machine through a browser.

Using Firefox does not negate the use of spyware removal tools.

"Perhaps the new MS Anti-Spyware application is just a stop-gap solution until Longhorn comes out in a few years. But I'm not holding my breath. Instead, let's all follow Microsoft's lead: admit defeat now, and then figure out how to profit from the epidemic you helped create."
