Windows 10 Uninstalling Apps Without Permission

Anyone else getting this ?

My OS has uninstalled Garmin Express and the drivers to my old Canon Scanner ! It never asked, and I only ffind out when they stop working.
Reinstalled the drivers for the scanner and it works fine again, but I am completely unable to reinstall Garmin Express. A quick Google seems I'm not alone.

If this is true I will have to consider reverting to 8.1.

Was this after the update to build 10586 by chance?

I noticed it had uninstalled CPU-Z on my upgrade, never seen it uninstall anything at any other time though.....and I accept it as it's essentially doing an OS upgrade, where apps flagged as potentially incompatible do get removed and always have done (or at the very least, wouldn't allow upgrade until you had manually removed them).

Yes I lost a couple of programmes in the November update, I think I commented on here about it though strangely the programmes removed I reinstalled the exact same version and they have been working fine.

However I would check your privacy settings etc as all mine were reset.

I think perhaps this is the key bit that MS didn't really consider with their big one windows, no more new OSes plan (and to be fair, although I knew it was the case I hadn't considered all the implications). We no longer just get patch-style updates: when you get a new OS build through Windows updates it is literally reinstalling the OS, albeit over the existing one rather than with a clean install. In many ways it's a bigger update than a service pack, even.

It'd be nice if this was made clearer at the time; MS really haven't handled the PR part of Windows 10 at all well. it would also have been better if they'd worked out a way to quarantine "incompatible" programs and give you an option to reinstall them automatically at your own risk following the update.

Yup, the big issue I see is people with smaller SSDs. The new build will create the windows.old folder which can be quite large.....people are going to have to be vigilant with their use of disk cleanup utility.
