Thumbs up Windows 10 upgrade ! I love it :)

I upgraded to windows 10 yesterday and i must say i am really enjoying it ,but i did have problems !!

Problem one was i could not update via the GXW windows 10 upgrade thingy so i just installed through a flash drive .Installation was smooth and was able to choose the settings i wanted which was mostly no !

Problem two was just finding my way a little and uninstall some apps . This was easier than what i read online about all this

Problem three was all my steam game that were loaded onto a second HDD was gone !! Solution was sorted after what was a very simply thing to do within the steam settings .

Problem four was no music or no sound in gameplay ! This was a bit tricky becuse for some reason the downloads i installed from the VIA site didnt work ??? Well thanks to iObit Driver booster it installed the right one and all works

Everything works ,all games work from all HHD's and im now getting the 60fps in GTA5 and Arma 3 is running even smoother than before !
I'm going to toy around some more over the next couple of weeks and think about doing a clean install but then i may have different problems ?

    Re: Windows 10 upgrade ! I love it :)

The motherboard utilities/drivers from ASUS were my main gripe as well - ended up having to clean install Windows to resolve the issue.

My mum's laptop (HP touch screen something or other) went from 8.1 to 10 and happily broke the LAN and Wifi drivers, downloaded them direct from Atheros but no joy. Tried the HP website but they only offer driver downloads through Windows Update for that model... Full factory reset to 8/8.1 and upgraded to 10 and got the network adapters working again.

So yes, once you disable all the privacy snooping (using the setup options and extra tools), got through driver Hell, removed some of the bloat (Candy Crush etc.) and fixed the DPI scaling (not sure if that's still an issue on more recent builds). Win 10 is very good.

I have indeed had the odd sound problem in Win 10, sound card disappeared in Control Panel but showed in Device Manager ??? So yes sound issues are a bit odd, other than that its been pretty solid.

I had my first big gripe with Windows 10 last week (XINPUT driver in the latest cumulative update)....other than that, it's been a rock....even Realtek audio

Pretty much every issue I have seen or heard about so far, are driver related........unsurprisingly....although there does seem to be fewer of them this time around.

I'd put screen, keyboard, mouse & networking before sound to be honest.

I couldn't nail it down to anything in particular, sound card disappeared and the HDMI on the graphics card became the default, a couple of reboots later sound returned like nothing happened!

The more things change, the more they stay the same. I had sound card problems with the original Soundblaster and SB16, and AdLib Gold, back in the days of text-based DOS, and in Win3.x. They persisted in one form or another, though to a lesser extent, in WinXP, W95, W98 etc.

Ironically, I think Win7 is about the one Windows iteration that hasn't given me sound problems ... other than once or twice when trying to get very old games running caused some head scratching and the odd uttered expletive.

True. Vista got a lot of flack for rewriting the audio stack but really the ire should have been directed at Creative. Amazing how cheap motherboard audio worked fine but Creative products could only be fixed by buying a newer model.

I seem to recall someone tricking Creatives new drivers to work on the old hardware & having lawyers waved at him.

Ah yes I remember DOS well, fiddling around far too many jumpers on the soundcard, especially when the sound card also controlled the CD-ROM drive. Still remember what I put in the autoexec.bat file :-

    Re: Windows 10 upgrade ! I love it :)

I've upgraded to Win10, did a in place upgrade, Having alot of sound issues, Uninstalled the Drivers & installed the latest ones from the RealTek website, still same issue. In Control panel its showing HDMI with a red cross, I guess this is to do with the Graphic card. tried to install the old ones and the PC hangs. Jonj1611 - ahh yes the CreativeLabs AWE 64 GOLD One of the best sound cards ever. Overall I dislike the win10 Graphic styling and the annoying Fonts. Also when playing Battlefield you ALT+TAB out of the game and the Browser changes it's dam size when you dont want it too, happens with Edge & Chrome. All the Icons are meh.

    I still like it
Im now thinking about re-installing a fresh Windows 10 but at the moment everything is still okay !
I am going to toy around more not only because i really need to but because it seem to be crying out "tinker with me " . Maybe it's Cortana
Honestly i have not had one problem now since ironing out the problems i stated earlier on . Maybe the real test is when i do a fresh install ?

I say go for it if you haven't got much to loose with loosing data and programs .
