Best AV/Internet Security package - if any?

Do people even use AV suites any more outside of specific worries and Windows built-in option?

I use Malware bytes every now and again "just to be sure" but it got me thinking, I wouldn't mind paying for a decent suite for peace of mind.

Any one got any suggestions and or reasons?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

I just renewed my Kaspersky licence. However, in my experience, AV suite league tables are utter tosh - the best suite can drop down the table in a matter of weeks, depending on which viruses or whatever are currently hogging the limelight.

I ended up settling on one that seems to work ok and doesn't grind my system to a halt in the process.

I personally use Avast Free combined with MBAM Pro (One of the older permanent keys).

I frankly never even receive warnings from either, and when I do occasionally scan I have nothing turn up, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to keep them running either so might as well. Could probably do away with Avast at the very least since I have MBAM Pro, but I havent had any conflict issues either.

Re: Best AV/Internet Security package - if any?

I've found I get more false-positives than anything else. I read something a while ago about the death of AV - they're not quick enough to react and it's more about having the underlying vulnerabilities patched quickly.

That said, I think some sort of AV is a must for your average computer user. Somebody who knows how to spot an executable script from a mile away, and has a fully patched system is probably going to be safe.

I try to take an approach of recoverability. I've got read-only snapshots of my data, and off-site backups of the more important stuff. My internal LAN is segregated with VLANs to keep potentially dodgy IOT and baked-in clients such as TVs away from my computer.

I do run Clam on my mail server, but I have to send a test virus through every few years as I don't seem to get sent viruses via email.

I agree that the tables vary rapidly, but I still keep an eye on them and if my chosen solution is too far the bottom consistently I'll change - they convinced me to move away from the MS one. I've run Avast and Avira and rate both of them quite well, but my current favourite is Panda which seems nag free once you say don't tell me news. If buying I'd go for Kaspersky.

Re: Best AV/Internet Security package - if any?

Avira upset me about 10 years ago and I've never forgiven them ... might be a bit inclined to hold a grudge I currently stick to MSE/Windows Defender, which back when Win 7 came out was reckoned to be as good as any free solution. Is that no longer the case? Might have to review some alternatives if not...

Well like I said, MSE fairly regularly comes out near the bottom in the comparative tests. Eg:
    https://www.av-comparatives.org/wp-c...eet2017_02.pdf

Together with a fairly high FP rate it was enough to make me switch to Panda.

Re: Best AV/Internet Security package - if any?

Setup a system for the sibling the other day and went with Trend Micro, only couple of quid from a reseller, reviews/league tables hold it in good stance from what I recall, only downside is no built-in firewall but there's good alternatives, freeware or to buy.

It does install a few services but I've not noticed any slowdown, which is always good IMO.

Personally, like Bitdefender stuffs too but they're around £17 when on offer. Though thats for only a years license just like the TrendMicro, shame, seems a lot of things have moved over to subscriptions. However, it makes sense as you'll need to keep the definitions updated.

Using Avast Free AV and Comodo firewall.
Avira seems to be a reasonable AV and Private Firewall is good as well.
Run some on-demand apps every so often:
    Avast scan
    MBAM scan
    SAS scan

Emco Malware Destroyer just won't run for me - pity, as it's a useful check due tit being so quick.

malwarebytes is a must and its completely free to use. Microsoft security essentials is pretty good to have running too. If you want super security then try comodo firewall which will stop any unauthorised installations/modifications of files along with allowing you to see all network traffic and what programs are using the network devices.
