Wow, I didn't realise they were still going. Used it a lot in the XP days, then discovered VLC and never looked back. I suspect a lot of others did the same and interest waning as a result.

Its a shame since it is still better in one or two areas than VLC,so why I still have it installed.

    Re: MPC-HC(media player classic) RIP

it and the pre HC version were always my media players of choice for video. partly as it existed before VLC or at least before I knew about it (talking about 20 or so years ago) and with a particular soundcard setup it gave me proper 5.1 passthrough via a hack or something that wouldn't work on VLC. I've had both installed for years though and ironically it's the other way around on my main pc that VLC passthroughs ok when MPC doesn't, but I've been using streamers since the day of xbmc on Xboxes as I prefer to use a remote control and not have unwanted sounds playing if I'm browsing whilst watching stuff

it doesn't sound like it's the complete end if they can get some devs. I'm sure this announcement will end up bringing them the help they couldn't get before it

    Re: MPC-HC(media player classic) RIP

I'm stunned, I use it as my usual player, as part of the K-Lite Codec Pack. Its a shame to see it go, but as Unique said, someone else may pick it up. I also use the MPC Black Edition, because it has a slightly different interface. There are probably other branches of MPC out there.

Heres to hoping someone will take on MPC going forward.

    Re: MPC-HC(media player classic) RIP

I find MPC-HC a bit more robust than VLC, and it's my daily go-to player as well.

Shame, but I think the current builds are mature enough to last a long while with no further updates.
