I'm toying with the idea of Elite Dangerous as that looks good, but it has mixed reviews.

It is very very good.
It does have an initial learning curve that is a touch steep, but only because there's a lot to do and you'll pick it up quick enough.

The thing to remember is that it's a successor to the original Elite, so there is a lot of exploring and trading and "grinding", all while deciding what you want to do... rather than it being spoon-fed to you with A-list Hollywood actors voicing NPCs in briefings for missions that are "epic scale" combat masterpieces.
It is not Star Citizen.
It is not EVE Online.
It is not No Mans Sky.

It is a game that is supposed to take ages, from a time when every other game was all about three lives and Hi-Score.
It is not all things to all people and many of them went in with misguided expectations, hence the mixed reviews.

But not so *much* space sim that it takes half a day to start your ship engines, like in Rogue System!!

Hah, yeah, accessible space-sim. Basically, what we all loved in the late nineties - flying around in a space-plane shooting at stuff, with lasers.

I want to just jump in (hope you don't mind OP) to say I'm considering making some music on my Win10 PC? It's pretty decent spec, I just wanna make a drum beat and add some bass and see what happens, what software is best for messing around that might possibly still apply if I was making a decent single? I don't know if it's all VSTs now, or samples, or even MIDI based. Audioheads, what software should I get to try this out?
