That depends on your motherboard and the way it connects mSATA. It won't be faster, about the same on the latest versions that enable 6GB/s throughput, slower (though rarely noticeably slower) on the older mSATA 3GB/s capable 'boards.

I have an older 'board with 3GB/s mSATA and boot from it, it's still pretty fast

mSATA is a physical form factor, and is identical performance-wise to standard SATA of the same version.

M.2/SATA express is a different story when communicating over the PCIe bus rather than the traditional SATA bus.

Re: Msata is it any better?

With your 'board, mSATA uses the #6 SATA connection: "The SATA6 port will be unavailable when install a SSD in the mSATA port". The price differential probably points to a normal SSD as being the economic choice.

With the older x77 chipset, using mSATA sometimes locked out one of the two SATA 6GB/s connectors, other times, one of the SATA 3GB/s connectors; older chipsets were all (I think) 3GB/s.

The mSATA form factor is mini PCIe but the interface is electrically different, some notebooks were equipped with combined mini PCIe/mSATA interfaces for either SSD or WWAN.

Re: Msata is it any better?

From what I've seen when pricing them up, the equivalent priced mSata chips usually have a dire Write speed compared to sata SSDs

Is this good? Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272539612238

Would it work if plugged into minipci converter that takes generic sata connection?

Instead of digging up a 3 year old thread and, bumping old threads and starting multiple threads.

Why not just open one thread, in the hardware section and ask all your questions?
