    Samsung SM225MW 22" with PS3.. jagged edges?

    Hi,

I've just got a PS3, and the monitor I bought to run it through (a Hanns G HG216D) is giving jagged line edges, and not entirely smooth text (even on the XMB) on any of the resolutions available. So I'm gonna return it, and get another monitor, but I'm confused now as to what'll work best...

I've been looking at the samsung SM225MW. Samsung For Business | Products | Desktop Displays | SM225MW

It looks pretty good, and on samsung's site it has the little 'HD Ready' logo. So, I'm wondering if anyone has a PS3 running through one of these, and if so how does it look? I don't want any jagged lines!

So i found one of those on ebay for £199 (seems pretty good) and so if this monitor isnt gonna be good, i'd also love to hear any suggestions of one that people know will work well, for around about the same price.. if possible!

    any help greatly appreciated!

    J

Jagged edges are nothing to do with the monitor. Jagged edges are to do with the systems Anti-Aliasing.

It may be possible that running the game in the highest resolution (more load for the system) causes Anti-Aliasing to be cut, meaning the system can perform at the high resolution.

Try changing your PS3 to 720 instead of 1080 (if you can). It should be in the options.

On another note- i have the 20" version Samsung, and its awesome for PC gaming and HD Xbox 360 Gaming.

Re: Samsung SM225MW 22" with PS3.. jagged edges?

    Hi there,

Thing is, these jagged/aliased edges are on the default font inside the PS3's firmware screens. They look not so much aliased all the way around, as just on the sides of some letters, like they've had their side cut. It really looks like they've been squashed/stetched as a result of the native res of the monitor not being compatible with the ps3s res options.

i've tried all the resolutions the ps3 has, and 1080p works best, but not perfect.

so anyone have this exact Samsung, and have it working well on ps3?

    So its distorting the image?

Try the monitors settings and have a look in the zoom options. See if it changes anything.

Read the first line under the picture. It says the same thing.

Re: Samsung SM225MW 22" with PS3.. jagged edges?

    Hi again,

Yeah he seems to be talking about the same problem I'm having, but his solution is to use the screen at it's native resolution, and on my PC that's what I have it set on. Problem is the PS3 doesn't have other options, so it's distorting it and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Still looking to find out how that samsung monitor fairs on PS3...?

Its because that monitor obviously doesn't support he resolutions. As I said, I have the 20" version of that monitor, but it has the same resolution as the 22". I am fairly firm in believing that the samsung will be perfect for what you are using it for.

Ahh ok.. You don't use a PS3 through your 20" samsung though? As I read that the 360 will output to a wider range of resolutions, where the PS3 will do 480, 720 and 1080 only. Gaww.. I'm in a stick, I need this all sorted before next monday, for the game experience of the century!

I'm using my samsung at 1080- so you'll be fine.

The samsung, although it doesn't actually have 1080 pixels, it will scale the image perfectly, so you won't notice you are missing out on the 30 pixels or so.

I really think you'll be fine with the samsung.

P.S. how the hell are you having a game experience with a PS3?! ;P
