    COD 4 Connection Error

Does anyone regularly experience the 'Unable to connect to host' error when trying to invite friends into a party or trying to connect to someone elses?

The strange thing is that we have managed it a few times and its worked great once we're in the same party, but 90% of the time we just cant do it.

Oddly enough we were both online last night but got sick of trying to invite one another so just went and played on our own and ended up in the same game!!! But the damn thing still wouldnt put us in the same party.

We both connect to the internet via wireless ADSL and have good speeds. I have no other problems on PSN or starting a chat, just this.

Anyone got any suggestions? This is really frustrating.

I dont play cod4 on Ps3 but it seems quite a widespread problem by looking at the Infinity Ward forum, they have a 'How to set up your router for Ps3 multiplayer' page.

    Hope it helps..

Make sure your ports are open on your router. Or the PS3 is in a DMZ or something. So far I haven't had any problems with it and connections.

    Thanks so far.

I've been doing some reading up and my PS3 has a NAT type 3 connection and doesnt have uPnP enabled which apparently can be the problem, NAT type 1 or 2 is required for fully functional connections between players.

I need to open up the ports in the link gtech posted and I will go about setting a static IP for the PS3. Never done any of this before (aside from basic wifi setup), I've largely ignored more advanced router settings until now.

Did you setup your router etc properly? I've played COD round at friends houses on the PS3 before I bought it and they had no problems doing what Im trying to do! They just jump in and out of parties while Im sat looking at a black error screen

Yep my router was fine, I was able to play UT3 online without any problems.

    Re: COD 4 Connection Error

Well. its finally sorted and now works flawlessly. All I did was log into my router and enable uPnP, as soon as I did that I went to NAT type 2.

If your PS3 is showing NAT type 3 and uPnP unavailable in the internet connection test then online gaming and chat will be hampered. You should have either NAT type 1 or 2 and uPnP available.
