    HDMI leads

i dont know if you watch it but theres a program called the gadget show. it did a review on HDMI leads and found a 20 quid one was exactly the same as a 120 quid one
i was just wondering what leads does everyone have? and if this is the case with a expensive one
i've got a 25 quid one i think and it does the job good... i think

Erm, my HDMI leads were the cheapest I could find from a trustworthy retailer.

It either works or it doesn't....

mine was £3 on eBay with free postage
as Dave says, it either does the job or it doesn't none of the bull about 'oh but you get a much clearer picture and the sound quality is much better' even if that was the case it still doesn't justify the price point.

    HDMI is digital.

The 1's and 0's leave one device and arrive at the other, or they don't. It's really that simple despite what all the BS company's like Monster will tell you.

    question:

if you copy a 192K MP3 file to a gold-plated USB drive, does the bitrate increase to 256K?

if the answer is "yes", buy a Monster cable. if the answer is "no", buy a £3 cable from wherever as long as it has an HDMI logo on it

I have a £40+ worth HDMI cable made by IXOS think it's 2m (got it with HDTV at cut down price), you can see them on play.com I think as proof of how much they cost. Build quality is definatley high, really thick cable, well protected so no way you are going to damage it etc. Anyways I have it hooked up to my HDTV from my PS3.

I bought a 5m Plexus HDMI cable for about £6 to go to the HDTV from my PC, it does the job just as good as the IXOS cable. The only thing is that it isn't covered in over the top protection.

HDTV is 1080P so basically max resolution of the standard passing through each cable.

Conclusion? Buy a cheapo cable if you can live with your HDMI cable not surviving a nuclear attack.

    Re: HDMI leads

There are some "fake" hdmi cables if you can believe that, and for longer leads you do need a certain aspect of quality. So I spent £20 on a Labtec cable (10m) which to be honest was cheap anyway, but as it was a good name as well it's reassuring.

However as others have commented it is fully digital and it doesn't matter how they are carried, especially over short distances they will make no difference whatsoever. There was a nice quick thing on this in the gadget show

There are also different standards of cables, i.e. the different specs, and some are only able to cope with 720p as opposed to 1080p. For long cables the AWG of the cable comes into play...

I'm always amazed when people mention this as a plus point

Whens the last time you broke a cable from a games console / DVD player / or any other device to your telle?

I know you're not, but some people make you believe that if you so much as look at them that cheaper cables will fall to bits. That or they keep them in the boot on their car in case they need to tow someone

    Cheap anything can be broke.
But for something which is largely connected to one device, then the other, and probably not touched for years on end - is this really an issue?

Its pretty easy to tell the quality of them just be feeling them. If it falls apart in your hand, don't buy it

Know that all too well on the till girls at work

Mind you a cable CAN make a difference......but not that many would notice, so for many it isnt worth it, analogue connections though are a different matter

My PS1 and PS2 cables went a bit dodgey actually if you bent the cable just as it came from the console it would mean you had to fiddle for ages to fix the picture... always had to make sure the first few inches were completely laid flat and not bending off anywhere
Surprisingly that's the only problem I ever had with my PS2, I've had one since launch and it's still going strong

    *waits for sexual joke*
