NFL at Wembley - Why? They're ruining the pitch

Why is the game between the NY Giants and Miami D being held at Wembley today?

The big brutes are ruining the pitch. Please don't say they're trying to force us to like American Football?

This is like Arsenal playing a home game in at the Giant's stadium? What's the point?

I'd be furious if I was a NY fan.

Why would they do anymore damage to the pitch than rugby players? (I'm assuming wembley will get at least some of the more high profile games, correct me if I'm wrong, but they manage it in cardiff anyway)

Rugby games don't have all that crap sprayed across the pitch in different colours, plus the players on a Rugby pitch are only on there for 80 mins, these guys play for about 4 hours don't they?

Whatever the case, I just don't get why it's being played in the UK. Why not just let the UK based American Football teams play a match there.

    Now I get it.

They must be gearing up for this:

BBC SPORT | Football | Premier League | USA 'should host Premier matches'

We return the favour, right? UK football in the US. Beware Man U fans!

"It would be good for the game", West Ham non-executive chairman Eggert Magnusson says.

    Ah right, course it would.

Fair point, i hadnt thought about the remarking, although surely it must be washable anyway? I imagine it will actually be fairly different as well, arent a lot of american football stadiums astroturf?

The construction of Wembley stadium did go over budget so maybe they are hosting this NFL game to rake in some extra cash.

    Not the first time either.

The old Wembley, in fact, staged the NFL's first officially sanctioned pre-season game outside the US in 1986 when the world champion Chicago Bears beat the Dallas Cowboys
    I was there.

Why not - it is a historic match for followers of American Football. Also it gives UK based fans a chance to watch a regular season game in person.

Total sell out, and it sold out very quickly.

Almost a million ticket requests, 90,00 seater stadium.

So could have sold every seat many times over.
