    Sports Venues in Manchester

Basically I need you guys to point me in the direction of local gyms, sports centre etc within the Manchester Area, need to get fit again (5 a side every Sunday with my workmates kill me......)

So far ideas are as follows:

Philips High (Whitefield) - Badminton (approx £6 per court)
Abraham Moss Sports Centre (Crumpsall) - Badminton (approx £10 per court)

Fitness First (Whitefield) - Gym, Squash, Swimming - too expensive (£30 monthly fee!)

Pitz (Premier 5 a side) location unknown - somewhere in Ancoats? and one in Stockport £27 per court

When I was a student 2 years back facililties below were cheap £2 each entry, now its anywhere up to £7 (on staff rate using an alumni card!)

Sugdon Sports Center (Manchester, Oxford Road) - Gym, Squash and Badminton
Aquatics Center (Manchester, Oxford Road) - Swimming, Gym

Oh and I forgot the most common one - the road - cycling, jogging, running!
Or even Heaton Park.... (within walking distance of home!!!)
Just need to fork out some money for a bike...

    Anywhere else?

    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

My parents used to take me here, as a kid:

    :: YClub Manchester ::

Next to the Museum of Science and Industry. No idea how much it costs anymore though. There's an enquiry form on the website.

Looks like its members only, I would prefer the odd occasion of visiting as I can't commit to going regularly due to working patterns (hence I've still not joined a gym as they tend to shut before I can get home :-) )

Where abouts are you? A decent set of trainers shouldnt set you back more than 50 squids, and then running is free, if dull.

Prestwich, and I can go around prestwich high with a hilly area....
accross the M60 for that morning breeze from the cars speeding past or Heaton Park.

but an indoor facility just for those rainy days (I've didn't do any exercise for the last 3 days due to this... lazy I know!)

    Re: Sports Venues in Manchester

Got a reply from Y Club if anyone else wants to know their prices:

Thank you for enquiring about membership at the Y Club.

Membership at the Y club enables you access to all the facilities that we offer here including gym, pool, classes, sauna steam etc... When you sign up for membership you automatically receive two gym inductions where one of the fitness team will put together a tailor made program for you, this will be reviewed continually. The program will be placed on the fitlinxx computerized training system.

We offer many different memberships at the Y Club. We offer both a peak and off peak individual membership. The off peak membership enables you to use the facilities 6am - 3.45pm Monday - Friday, 8am - 8pm Saturday and 8am - 7pm Sunday. The peak membership enables you to use the facilities 6am - 10pm Monday - Friday, 8am - 8pm Saturday and 8am - 7pm Sunday. You also have different options when paying for the memberships you can either pay monthly by direct debit (6 month contract) or can pre pay for the year:

Peak £42 per month or £440 per annum

Off Peak £33 per month or £340 per annum

We also offer age related, student, short-term and corporate memberships.

All memberships have a £15 admin fee and £50 joining fee. However during February we are running a no joining fee offer saving you £50.

The best thing to do would be to come and have a look at the facilities that we have to offer here, when would be a convenient time for you? If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
