    Skipping

I brought a skipping rope last week and went a bit mad with it a couple of days back.
I can barely walk now, everything in my body hurts. Had no idea how much of a work out these things give you.

if you really want to get fit, simple solution:

skipping (eg 2 mins) then immediate pressups, then back to skipping then situps etc

EVIL regime, but shows why skipping is essential part of fitness. Thing about it is that it requires core strength, all the limbs, and no room for rest.

Most likely depending on where I get a job (travelling won't be easy)

I just want to get the muscles flexing a bit first as I've really done very little over the last year due to my degree.

Oh and seriously, skipping ropes are deadly.

To hell with anyone watching you. Anyone that laughs at you if you skip obviously haven't done it. As you have found out it isn't as easy as it looks, but it is an all over conditioning tool and is a great work out. It builds stamina, endurance, agility and balance. Just start off slowly and build it up!

^I don't think anyone's laughing in a "Ha ha, that's a girl's exercise," sense as anyone who knows anything about boxing will testify. However, it's more an exercise to do in private until you're very good as it's easy to cock-up and look stupid that way.
