F1 - Grand Prix Moves to Donnington in 2010
Bloody government, they make all that money from petrol and road tax and they won't even chip in to help pay for a bit of tarmac to keep the GP at Silverstone. So as of 2010 its now been announced that Donnington will be the venue for the British Grand Prix... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/moto...ne/7489662.stm Matt |

Re: F1 - Grand Prix Moves to Donnington in 2010
As much as it was a good race last time it was mainly because of the rain.
Donnington is a good track but it isn't up to F1 spec and neither is Silverstone. The only reason Donnington has got the race is because it has private backing for the improvements where as the BRDC don't know where the money is going to come from for Silverstone and it was all still up in the air. Bernie went to the place that could guarantee a rebuild. It disgusts me really, we spend god knows how much on the Olympics which happen once in a blue moon but we can't spend money on Silverstone, the HOME of F1. It is the hub that most F1 teams are around. F1 is a BRITISH orientated sport. The British GP should be at Silverstone and no where else. |

Re: F1 - Grand Prix Moves to Donnington in 2010
No, what I am saying is that the government should be spending money on things that are intrinsically British, not leaving it to private backing.
I would prefer to not have some stupid dome or other such eyesore or to not host the Olympics where special camps have to be built to the tune of millions if it meant keeping the F1 where it belongs. Apart from the years that Silverstone alternated, it has always been there. It is about heritage and whilst I am pleased we still HAVE a British GP, I am unhappy that it happened this way. |

Donington has an older motorsports heritage than Silverstone. If F1 is the pinnacle of British motorsport then I think Donny is more than qualified.

Silverstone has always hosted the F1, Donnington only hosted the European. It is the home of F1, it is like turning the Paris-Dakar into the Nice-Dakar and saying 'its ok it all starts in the same country'. The F1 teams base themselves close to Silverstone not Leicester! The gripe is that the government will sooner let that kind of heritage go when the choice is between their money or seeing a private backing doing the work. We should be spending money on sports on the places that matter, that need it, the BRDC have been at the government for years to help but they won't and it angers me. Especially when they spend stupid amounts in other areas like the olympics which once gone will leave a load of empty stadiums behind. |

donington access is not much fun - are they going to upgrade the roads to try and cope? Try the M1 after a big bike race..

Re: F1 - Grand Prix Moves to Donnington in 2010
I presume this is the case, as currently it states that Donnington is not up to F1 standard and needs development.
This I presume is where the money from this private backer is coming from. |

*sigh*
I wish it was at Brands...such a lovely track. Donnington is a pig to get to and leave whenever it is hosting a large event. |

Re: F1 - Grand Prix Moves to Donnington in 2010
I like Donnington, but I don't fancy the British GP there. Not at all.
The 2 wheeled guys and fans have moaned about it enough, don't really see how the supposed pinnacle of motorsport will work well there. I really love Silverstone as a venue, better than any other I've been to. Guess I'll need to make one last pilgrimage next year. |
