Re: The official Beijing Olympics Thread
Woohoo for working night shifts! Since I'm up at weird hours anyway I'll be able to watch plenty of it live. Don't think I'll include the opening ceremony in that though, always very drawn out and ultimately nothing really happens. It's all about the live sport action, not the dressy shows.
Hopefully the pollution won't cause any athletes problems. I hope it won't but in reality I don't see how it can't. |

Re: The official Beijing Olympics Thread
The mistake everyone makes with the opening ceremony is making it last 19 hours, and always doing the same thing - let off some fireworks, get loads of people wearing costumes to dance around a bit.
Not this time though, I've been watching, and this time its fireworks being let off while loads of people in costumes dance around a bit. Its magical. And its only 19 hours long this time as well. So completely different to all the others. And the commentator always goes 'and this part of the show represents the history of China, through the ages, and the twin powers of ying and yang, and the fire of the dragon that burns in the heart of blah blah'... and its some fireworks being let off while people in costumes dance around. Enough with the fireworks and dancing! ![]() |

Re: The official Beijing Olympics Thread
This is one cool opening ceremony! Those tai-chi people who were just on were ace! Only downside is the BBC commentator putting a negative spin on everything.
ooooh, this space thing looks cool... |

Re: The official Beijing Olympics Thread
he, no thats my only political comment of the games.
Anyway, the athletes are coming out now... to the tune of Scotland the Brave. Fantastic. ![]() I like this part as you only ever see everyone elses flag once, but the Union Flag appears 97 times, as its in the corner of every place in the world we've conquered. 'And now the Facist Democratic Communist Republic of the Made Up Islands!' *man walks in with yellow flag with Union Flag in the corner* *Settles down to watch* |

Re: The official Beijing Olympics Thread
I'm never found Olympic Opening Ceremonies that great.... but that was spectacular! Once in a every small while to make some proud to be Chinese. London's got a lot to follow up, I reckon!
That's Olympic games over for me now ![]() |
