    Kaka - Man City

Could'nt see a thread on this so thought I'd start one

Looks like it's going through: news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/7830199.stm

    Over £100m!!!

Stupid money for a team that's in 15th! Just shows what money does, can't be good for the game!

Typical example of more money then sense. If Man City and their owners had any they would know that £100 million can buy you a set of very good players that will improve your team way more then one player could.

Even chelsea never thought of spending that much on one player when they were at their peak of spending.

They only signed Shevchenko for £30m cos Abramovich is friends with him!

It'll be part of a bigger plan though. Get in one superstar and it should be easier to entice other big players to come to a club they otherwise wouldn't even consider. That's the only way I can see how they're saying "the money involved is something we feel, from a football and business point of view, works".

If it were just a case of just buying a player for extortionate money, they wouldn't be saying that (not that I'm trying to justify it - no footballer is worth anything close to what the top-level players get, let alone £300,000 per week).

I still don't think he'll join. He can't play in the UEFA Cup, Man City have little chance of playing in Europe next year unless they win this years competition and by all accounts he's not a player who follows the money anyway. If he does join, then they've clearly done a very good job at selling their goals for the next couple of seasons.

I see your point, I don't think he wants to go but AC Milan might force him to go. I'm stating the obvious but £100 million is a hell of a lot for just one player.

    Re: Kaka - Man City

It's just getting out of hand IMHO and is ruining football as there is too much of a gap between rich and poor clubs. I think there should be a salary cap and limit on foreign players and then at least it may give the lower clubs a chance otherwise it turns into who can just buy success by throwing money at a club. It's also a bad thing for our national team as clubs won't bother bringing kids up through the ranks.

100 million is disgusting amount of money especially in a time when people are loosing their jobs. His reputed 500k a week wages are obscene if true. Or maybe I'm just bitter that I'm rubbish at football.

its a joke to be honest. All football clubs should have to make a profit before they can buy. If they are not making a profit then they should be banned from spending.

It sets a very dangerous precident for them tho, the next big player they're interested in will see what Kaka's on and say I want what he's on. Next thing you know, 4 players are costing £2m a week in wages!!!

I agree but the owners (Arabs) would probably pay up, its pocket change for them.

i've been reading about this in the Sun over the last few days, and todays paper was saying that the offer is 108M for Kaka, 108M for 5 years of wages and 27M in fees.
that's 243M altogether, which IMO, absolutely no player in the world is worth.

what we really need is a transfer fee cap and a wage cap in all leagues.
this in turn will also drive down extortionate ticket prices and hopefully inspire 'passion' back into the game.

Keep in mind most reports aren't including tax for the wages, which almost halves the mooted salary (45% I believe it is). Doesn't make it any better, but just for the record.

I don't care about Arsenal winning anything this year or even finishing in the top 4 - all I want is for Man City to get relegated just so I can see the look on the owners face!

    Robinho - 32.5 million
    Kaka - 108 million
    Man City relegation - Priceless.

From what I gather, Kaka would be classed as an overseas worker which means he will have much lower taxes.
