| Re: Swimming :) How did you get on Rai? I started swimming this summer and was all chuffed when I managed 1000m in 45 mins, not sure I could ever manage 1500 in the same time! Haven't been able to go for 3 weeks due to various illnesses so will be interesting to see how much difference having 3 weeks off has made. |

| Re: Swimming :) I didn't get on very well to be honest - my shoulder injury I sustained in July is still causing me some problems. 1500m in 45 mins is not as fast as I used to be able to do... when I was lifeguarding I could do it in about half an hour, but alas no more. after a few weeks of training in june/july I got my 750m down to about 16mins - until I slept on my shoulder funny and it all went to pot! I find having time off does make a difference, but you soon get back into it. I've just gotta settle into my new work routine and then see if I can build it in one/two nights a week. | Re: Swimming :) *chortle* But seriously, impressive stuff Rai. Me and the better half used to swim two nights a week after work, but only gentle toddling up and down - don't think I could possibly conceive of doing 1500m in one go any more! I used to do 1600m (or "a mile", as us old folks call it ) regularly when I was in my teens, but never managed that in much less than an hour (my excuse is that I'd already biked 6 miles to the swimming pool ). 1500m in 45mins is serious swimming... // // TODO: Add witty signature here // |

1. I've been swimming since I was old enough to bob about in my armbands - my first certificate is signed by my grandmother. 2. I did my first mile when I was 9 - it took me an hour and a quarter. - Then started on my bronze medallion life saving etc 3. From 16 I was a part-time lifeguard - towing the 6footsomething meatheads that I worked with... and training at least twice a week (instead of pootling about in some retail store for my pocket money) 4. I was an assistant swimming teacher from age 18 - then at 22 I passed my full ASA Swimming Teacher qualification (half subsidised by granny). I've never swum competitively (apart from the odd brownie gala, and this years triathlon sprint relay) but I've been brought up swimming... (if you've met me... I've got the physical signs... Big Traps and strong thighs )So yes, this is quite impressive, but there are reasons! I wouldn't be able to do those times at the moment, due to the injury mentioned in my shoulder and generally being unfit - but one day I'll be able to hit a 45min mile again. I don't want this to put anyone off though - everyone has their own pace that they're happy with... And taking in the information above, if anyone ever wants some advice, I'm more than happy to help.
