I train with a PT, she's 37, slim and FIT and we use them generally once a week. Make sure you get someone to show you how to use them, because if you swing heavy weights or don't have the right technique you'll do yourself damage. I guess that's the same for any weight regime, but just be careful.
She uses it to stay slim. Burns the fat like nothing I've seen and builds a slender body too. Having said that, if you go for heavy weights that will build you up too.
She's quite strong, 5' 7" and generally uses an 8 - 12kg kettlebell where 12kg is pretty heavy for her.
Do them as part of a circuit and watch the fat fly away and your fitness increase. Definitely recommend them.
