Hi All,
As subject really. I've done a couple of sprint triathlons, and fancy a proper challenge. I'm considering the Outlaw Triathlon in Nottingham next year.

No,as my suit engineering skills lead much to be desired!!

No, but a friend did one a few weeks ago. He's a long-term marathoner but it was his first iron man.
No, but I once got off with a rather masculine woman when I was drunk if that counts?Anyone here done an Ironman?

Have you ever run a marathon ? Did you go for a recovery run the following day or could you barely get out of bed ?
Ever cycled 100 miles or done any long walks/endurance events (>12 hours) ?
If the answer's are no then it might be worth working up to the full ironman, perhaps with a half first.
If yes, good luck. Those M dot tattoos are very coveted ;-)
My wife announced the other day that's she wants to do an ironman !! She's never even done a triathlon !!
She did run the London in 3:40 and she's a spinning instructor, so she's probably could do it in the 12 hours that she was talking about. If I were to let her off the child care that is ;-)
Not yet - the longest I've done was about 13 miles or so.
Again, the longest I've done was London->Hassocks - about 47 miles.Ever cycled 100 miles or done any long walks/endurance events (>12 hours) ?
Yeah, I'm not completely dumb. I actually did a couple of sprints - the first at the end of May (with only 3 weeks real training) was around 92 mins, the second with a bit more took me 86.If the answer's are no then it might be worth working up to the full ironman, perhaps with a half first.
If yes, good luck. Those M dot tattoos are very coveted ;-)
I've also gone from not being able to swim more than a length or so of crawl without almost drowning to yesterday doing 1.2k in an open water lake, and I just signed up for the Olympic distance Hever Castle Triathlon on Sunday.
Will post the time when I've done it.
I figure I should be able to get to half ironman reasonably easily - it's about 2x Olympic. If I can finish that comfortably, then I should be able to finish an Ironman uncomfortably. I'm not expecting a good time. I just want to finish. I'm thinking of this one:

with this to test my fitness first:

Cool, but I'd try a sprint first. The stresses on the body from moving from bike to run have to be felt to be believed. Proper jelly legs!My wife announced the other day that's she wants to do an ironman !! She's never even done a triathlon !!

I hope she doesn't read this. Sounds like she can run faster than you!!If I were to let her off the child care that is ;-)
Thanks, will post back on Sunday after I've done it as long as I've not killed myself!
Im in the process of developing my own ironman suit. will report back once its finished
Good luck b0redom, it's good to have an aim.
Finished the Olympic one in 3:50ish according to my Garmin. Bit of a killer. Unfortunately my timing chip appears to have been swapped out with one of the elite athelites so instead of finishing around 690th, I'm listed as finishing within the top 20!
Someone somewhere is going to be really fed up with their time.
Well, I still haven't done an Ironman, and the arrival of b0redom Jnr v3.0 has put the kybosh on me doing on this year, so I've just signed up for a 70.3 (half) instead. Should be easy right? What could possibly go wrong?

uhhh?
Well I did the Chantilly Half Iron on Sunday and my bike broke at 50km.
Still managed the run though. Looks like I'll have to do another in a couple of weeks if I'm going to go the full distance next year.
More info on my blog down there V
I've not done an ironman. I'd probably give myself a coronary running 100 yards for a bus. But a friend did, two or three IIRC, after a lifetime of running, and marathoning.
And he's just, by which I mean a week or two back, done a cross-channel swim, as part of a charity relay even. Not bad for mid 50's.
Mind you, a neighbour is the real running fanatic in my circle of friends. I lost count of his marathons after he topped 500, and I know he did the South Downs 80 several times. Not bad for someone pushing 70. Though, as I understand it, he doesn't do the SD80 any more. Just ("just", hah!) regular marathons.
