How overweight are you?
Are you aware of the risks of having surgery? This is not a simple in and out in an afternoon thing.
This thread needs to be very careful where it goes. For pretty obvious reasons, we don't allow medical advice to be given, so if people want this thread to stay open, please be very careful what you say. Thanks.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7432878.stm covers the main points.
It's a very specific operation for a very specific set of people. It's not a simple case of 'thinking of getting one' - you'll need to have checks and tests done to make sure you're suitable. A doctor is the only real person who can offer advice on this.
Guys, don't get me wrong - I'm not looking for an advice.
I only wanted to see if anyone had it and hear what do you guys think about it, how it went, any pros and cons. Just a simple conversation.
I'm not doing a poll here and based on the result would have it or not![]()

Understood. But generally, we do not allow discussions on medical issues unless they are very clearly generic. But the opening post did start with "I'm thinking of getting stomach band." The clear inference is that what is said could feed into a decision, and for legal reasons, we have to be very careful indeed about anything that might be considered advice, and that applies whether or not that was what you are seeking.
Hence the warning from me.
The thread is borderline. As long as it stays as general discussion on the pros and cons, I'll leave it open, but if it goes in the direction of advice, it'll get edited, or closed.

Here is a website talking about pros and cons of stomach banding. You can look into it.
Another one, just for sources.
I can't offer any personal or insightful information on this because I haven't personally had one and I am not a doctor. The best person you should go ask for pros and cons is either a doctor or a specialist. IMHO though.

Will power?
Salazaar : <Touching wood as I write this...>
That's probably the best way to go... I'm a bit overweight, but would never consider a stomach band as it's not going to make me any healthier (being slim doesn't necessarily mean you're healthy). I say stick with exercising and eat your fruit and greens (unless there's some medical reason why this can't be done)![]()
Easy said than be done IMO..
I've been trying avoiding fried food for years...never actually did because they are just sooo deliciousI guess this has to do in part with how my parents banned me from eating any fried food when I was young. Curiosity > willpower
One advice about dieting: don't eat chips or fries, or McDonalds, or KFC, or any other fast food stand you can come up with. And if you drink coffee, don't put sugar and cream in it. That just puts on pounds.![]()
Will power? I'm pretty sure I got rid of that when I was a kid
Exercise? I tried many times, a lot. I did gave me some small results. I think there is no point exercising - best way is to reduce food I eat. But IT IS SOOO FREAKIN HARD!
Today I came back from work and I thought I;m gonna eat a whole horse! Instead of this nice little animal, I had a bowl of brocoli cream soup and 3 pieces of dark bread with some spreadable cheese and pickles.
I have to try to eat slowly and do not make a lot of sandwiches at once. What I did today was 3 small pieces nad ate them slowly and waited.. hunger went away after half an hour.
But I can see this is going to so hard to keep it up for longer period...

Something to always try to do is have a small meal then wait for at least 20 mins before going back for more food. It takes about 20 mins for the hunger hormones to shut off after you eat, so if you wait, you'll often feel less hungry as you found. Also really try to avoid sugars, you want food with lots of fibre, protein and fat as that will keep you feeling full for longer.
wait 20 minutes after small meal... check
avoid sugars.. check
lots of fibre and protein and some fat.. check
Yes, I know about this 20 minutes brake, but it is also hard to initiate when you're hungry and waited for a long time to have a meal. But yes, it is true, it works, I felt it yesterday and have to say guys - I ate a lot less last evening than ever! (Now, this morning I'm planning to eat my boss... raw...)
It is funny how sometimes when I wake up after not eating a lot previous evening and feeling hungry, but sometimes hunger disappears over night and I wake up well rested and with flat tummy...
