I'm assuming so - as I've recently discovered treadmill running is a lot easier than real world running (and I'm only road running - it's not as if I'm hitting the trails or anything)

I've not done Park Run in a few weeks due to work and the like, so I'm hoping to be able to make it next week - it'll be interesting to see what kind of time I can pull over 5k - previously I was just under 25 mins, I'm hopeful I can hit something closer to 20-22 mins as that'll give me the confidence that I can complete the 10k in August sub 40 mins (though I was previously hoping to be able to achieve sub-50)

Note to self: enthusiasm is good, but take it step by step. I injured my lower back attempting a trick off a ramp. Basically lost control and landed on one side of my lower back. Initial x-rays shows no broken bones or fractures, but 6 days later it still hurts when my back bends or straighten (such as trying to tie my shoes, sitting up, or even sleeping on a soft bed). It is probably a sprain or strain. Doc is giving me a prognostic of 1 month for full recovery, though I am not banned from gradually returning physical activities in moderation. So now, I can more or less cruise down a slope, but will have to avoid too much impact (jumps) or movements that requires me to twist my body (spins). Frustratingly as I have been wanting to work on those.

One thing for sure. I will be wearing armour next time I attempt tricks. I had thought that helmets and knee pads was enough considering that I have no aspiration of doing anything really crazy. But it seems it doesn't take a big fall to deal big damage.

Got say, big respect to all you lot who can actually stick to an exercise regime and stay motivated - I've never stuck with anything for more than a couple of weeks xD

tiredness = bad, pain = bad, routine = bad... getting up early =... really bad
I've no idea how you all do it! >,<

A few tips (kinda obvious but also true):

    1) exercise with other people - motivation etc

    2) have a goal, esp one you have paid for, i.e. an event. Very effective motivator = not wasting cash

    3) enter a team-based event - MOST effective. You train because you don't want to be the weakest link or let the team down. Esp an event which is a non-starter if anyone fails to turn up on the start line.

Yesterday I ran/hiked a 50 miler orienteering in the Chilterns, with two team mates. Minimum 3 allowed.

It was very tough, far more than previous two years, because we were ailing. One teamate had a bad cough & wheezing, before we started, so he completely lacked oomph. Shouldn't have been competing, normally, but he didn't want to let us down, plus he was keen in a competitive sense. We'd planned on running hard, to better our previous best, but that put a stop to it. We ran less than 5%.

And my feet failed. I'm normally very good with foot prep, doing many hundreds of miles without a single blister. This time I did something wrong, so my feet were trashed and painful by mile 15.

I mention this because we both felt very unlikely to succeed, but being in a team pushed us onward. That and some druuuuuuuuuuugs, lol. The third teammate also blistered but not as badly. As solo entrants, no doubt we would have quit by midway.

We finished, in 3rd place out of 14 teams (woot!).

One can never stop saying Thank You

Ain't managed a bike ride since 23 Dec. 2014 due to one thing or another. Strava total for 173 rides was 4997 kms with max. ride distance being recorded at 55km's which averages out at about 28km's . Broke my collar bone mid January whilst doing something stupid and will be in a sling till about the end of Feb. - poor start to the year indeed.

They are certainly good tips. In the past I have played Rugby, done a couple of martial arts and held a couple of gym memberships (whether or not they were made the most of is a whole other issue) and I'm a bouldering nut now. Unfortunately I just don't enjoy cardio - I just find it time consuming and not as pleasant as chocolate.

I'd love to achieve something big like you have though (congrats on the podium, btw), so I guess I'll just have to try harder :s

Ooft, so I was under the weather last week after getting back from the States and did the worst possible thing: I took a few days off. Out running this morning and only managed 9.17km in 53 minutes. Sure, there were mild hills and it was raining but I feel like I've trained my guts out this morning. No more days off unless I have a proper injury!

Supposed to be at peak training at the moment. Managed a weak 24.5k running on Saturday and 110k on the bike yesterday, but my ITB is a bit broken, so slacking off a bit. Just need to prevent more injuries until March 23rd, then I can have a week or so off!

Good job Fuddam. I hope you're not going to take up triathlon races or I'm going to have to start training MUCH harder.

I'd echo the points the made re: motivation, and also add get your mate(s) to sign up to a competitive event. Loser buys the bacon sarnies afterwards!

126km on the bike on Saturday, then a new half marathon PB of 1:48 at the Hampton Court Half yesterday.

Was loving my 4 year old waking up screaming last night at 3am which subsequently work up the baby.

Geez, it has been 18 days already since my injury and while it -is- recovering it is recovering at a much slower pace than I was hoping. Still can't twist by body clockwise and bend my back backward much before I feel it. Heal already! :/

Curses - lost my Fitbit today. I guess that's as good a reason to buy a Surge as any.

Got my first run outing on bike since my recent injury . Got the all clear from the Specialist on Thursday. Late start but great to get back on bike. No trails at moment as going to give the bone a bit more time to knit so will be keeping to tarmac and Forest tracks at the moment.

That's good! How'd it feel to get back on?

I got new road/gym trainers getting delivered tomorrow, there goes one of my excuses. Also have 2 hours with a swimming coach on Wednesday to try and get me out of some really bad habits
