    Bike Light - Cree XML T6 - 18650 Battery?

    Hey all,

It is getting dark and my current Wilko Cree Q5 light isn't quite cutting it for light.

Bought this (Cree XML T6 chip, <1000 lumens).

Wondering what battery and all to get? Realised it only takes Li-Ions.

Currently looking at this and this charger.

There are also salvaged laptop batteries on the bay from the likes of Sayo, Samsung and Panasonic.

    They are all unprotected.

Bit weary of using these charging mainly.

    Cheers all

I haven't used either the cell or the charger linked above, though they don't inspire confidence at first glance.

There are too many good 18650 cells to name, my current favourite is the Panasonic 18650B - the unprotected variety because everything I run including my chargers have protection built in.

The Panasonic 18650B cells are also available with protection boards pre-mounted for a few quid extra, these range from the cheapo versions with protection PCBs stuck on the ends to neatly packaged and branded ones, XTAR are such a brand who make protected 18650 cells using Panasonic 18650B cells.

Lots of detailed reviews on cells and chargers there.

Sanyo brand batteries are also fine but i would agree that panasonic are the best.

I bought a "Nitecore Intellicharger" that i remember being recommended. It's not that expensive plus it can double up to charge AA and AAA as well 18650's.

Re: Bike Light - Cree XML T6 - 18650 Battery?

    Thanks for the help guys

Decided to spend a bit more and get something proper.

Protected Foxnovo batteries and an Xtar charger with protection circuit (heard Xtar is up there). Funky little "genuine" scratch code to to make sure it isn't counterfeit

    Going well so far.
