    BBC - Pennine Way

The new BBC mini documentary/series on the 50th anniversary of the Pennine Way has brought back my desire to walk the Pennine Way. It's something I never did because of the length and the time involved, but I have to say that the desire to make that walk (ideally in one go, but if necessary, broken down into legs) is still there.

As I re-evaluate forms of exercise I have to say that hiking/hill walking is high on the list in terms of enjoyment.

I'm thinking about making this more than just a dreamy wish-list entry and really making plans to do this. A family thing would be awesome when my kids, or at least my eldest son, are old enough, but doing it with some friends would also be great.

Not necessarily roughing it though. I think it'd be more enjoyable being able to travel light and enjoy nights spent at pubs/B&B's along the way. Good day's rambling followed by an evening of laughs and conversation and a nice pint or two sounds like a really agreeable holiday. I think Tolkien would approve!

    Re: BBC - Pennine Way

For those who want a really long distance hiking challenge, there are the E-paths - European ultra-long distance combination trails. They're international trails spread across Europe, with the shortest being 1600km and the longest 11,800km!
