    Karrimor - good/bad/other?

Thanks to a good marketing campaign (sponsorship) and product placement, I've 'heard' of these guys a lot in the outdoor sports type fields. But I actually know little about the company and want to know how good their footware stuff is. The only thing I can put to them is brand recognition which they've manufactured for themselves anyway.

Their shoes are really cheap (and always sold under 70% off discount it seems, which puts me off).

I have odds and sods of theirs, including boots and a 30L rucksack. Boots are good for the money but not worth the claimed rrp. When buying boots I go on what they are designed for, then get whatever fits best, brand is unimportant. Problem is that fit varies from make to make. Karrimor should be suitable for UK feet, as I believe they are a wide fit. If you want to try out a good set of boots, that come in a wide variety of sizes look for altbergs, they do 1/2 sizes and a variety of widths. I plan to go to the factory next time I am up North to try them, they also do custom fittings.

I have always liked the karrimor stuff and would say they are easily up there with berghaus, north face, and other fantastic brands. However I have always been a great fan of proper british army boots for walking, because of theyre comfort(once warn in properly!), waterproofness and ruggedness.

Thanks for the replies . I've got a decent pair of Merrells for walking, I was just looking at some karrimor trainers. Seem ok - I like the half sizes which could be quite handy as it seems my right foot is bigger than my left, which I'd never noticed before!

I actually have a pair of Karrimor outdoor shoes on at the min. They broke in really easily and are now very comfortable. Had them around 4 month and wore them for work in the kitchen so they got covered in allsorts.

Stuck them in the washing machine on a 40 and they came up looking new and not a thing wrong with them. I got a keyring compass with my pair also. Got them from a Sports and Soccer (Sportsworld now I think) for £20.

Reccomend them to anyone that loves doing the outdoor type stuff.

I've never tried any of their footwear, but if their rucksacks are anything to go by, they've always been good quality.
