Plans for 2006
No, this isn't my New Year's resolution list. It is in fact a list of things I'd like to buy/do/make over the next year. Let's get stuck in...
1. Storage upgrade. It'd be really nice to have a terabyte. Right now my main rig has a measly four 80GB drives, three in RAID-0 (blisteringly fast over NVIDIA SATA RAID: ~160MiB/s sustained) and a fourth as a backup. I reckon a quartet of 250 or 300GB drives, and maybe even take NVIDIA SATA RAID 5 for a spin. 2. Tablet. Laptops are soooo the first half of this decade. Tablets are the new in thing. Lenovo X41 hybrid tablet? Yes please! 3. MCPC. A new flat, and a new opportunity to kit it out with stuff. The summer of this year will see me scrape together the bits I need for a media center PC. I'm hoping for it to also act as a firewall/router, but we'll see. It'll need to stream (VLC?) across the network, and of course store a load of media and sit next to the telly. Should be a fun project. I think that'll do for now. |
