The Man-Kat project
Many have complained about Nestle's failure to forge a four-finger Kit-Kat chunky, but sometimes all you can do is take matters into your own, chocolatey hands.
![]() The Man-Kat Project After securing four Kit-Kat Chunkies from my local certified Kit-Kat dealership, I took a while (five seconds) devising a method of combining the Kit-Kats into a giant Kit-Kat feast. I didn't have any spare chocolate, so that left me with juts one choice: melt and meld ![]() ![]() The melt and meld method I divised involved warming a knife in a mug of water, previously boiled in a kettle. The hot knife could then be used to melt the chocolate along the edges of the Kit-Kats, allowing for the meld to be performed. Kit-Kat Chunkies, just like their little brothers, have a tapered edge, so part of the melting process required that I ensure the edges were as flat as possible before performing the meld. ![]() It proved quite tricky to get a nice flat edge... chocolate likes to stick to things when it melts, which included the knife and other bits of chocolate. Perhaps the Kit-Kat Chunkies were a bit eager to meld; whatever happened it made life difficult. ![]() I found that moisture on the knife left the Man-Kat somewhat damp. It needed refrigerating to strengthen the bonds formed, but that in turn would not remove the moisture... it was a catch 22. In the end I settled for refrigeration. Ultimately the melding process proved about 60% successful. Two fingers stuck together quite well, another was quite weak and the final finger was quite a poor meld. ![]() Despite the problems, however, above is a shot of the manliest Kit-Kat Chunky ever seen. Made from real Kit-Kat, nothing can stand in its way, except me, when hungry. Judging by its size I reckon it's equivalent to about 16-20 regular Kit-Kat fingers... about the number necessary to satisfy my apetite. It seems the reason behind Nestle's decision not to make such a product may be because the base of the Kit-Kat Chunky would need to be thicker to support the weight of the fingers attached to it. Indeed, in the future I will procure extra chocolate and create a new base layer for the four fingers, which should create a much stronger foundation for the Man-Kat. Thoughts and suggestions welcome. Edit: To those who want a photo with something in it for size comparison, I say this: It is four Kit-Kat Chunkies... go and buy a Kit-Kat Chunky and imagine four of them together. THAT'S how big it is. Besides, I've eaten half of it now... Last edited by Steve; 15-04-2006 at 05:13 PM. |
