It's my job to keep up with the industry buzzwords, else I wouldn't have a clue what I was reading, or indeed what I should be writing about. One number, however, is really starting to get to me. It's accurate to one decimal place and it's less than three.
Ah yes, '2.0'. It could be written as '2', but that's just not computery enough, is it? It doesn't look like the latest technological buzzword (or should that be buzznumber?) unless there's a decimal point on there.
So what's my problem with 2.0? It's everywhere. Somehow this damn number signifies a resurgence in Internet business. Put a 2.0 in your business plan, your website name, or on your new intimately located tattoo, and instantly success is guaranteed.
Web 2.0... what the hell is web 2.0? A lot of people associate it with Ajax. Ajax is clever use of javascript to allow asyncronous communication with an http server. It's really useful, and can result in some very nice web interfaces (trust me, I've had a play coding with it myself), but at the end of the day it doesn't stop a website being crap all by itself.
What about business 2.0? I don't even care what that means. Dell's talking about Dell 2.0. That pretty much kills that phrase off for me.
I'm bored ranting. I thought I had more in me, but now I'm drained from the anger. Can we please use 2.0 a little less? Oh, and woe betide anyone who tries 3.0 on me...
